Project Spotlight: Abrams Fixture Corporation

As part of Historic Preservation Month, the Atlanta Preservation Center is proud to highlight the ongoing historic rehabilitation of the c. 1920s Abrams Fixture Corporation site in Adair Park. The APC is partnering with and supporting Braden Fellman Group on this project, having provided research assistance and submitted letters of support for this site’s anticipated listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

Over the years, this site has been home to businesses including the J.I. Case Threshing Machine Co., Gate City Table Company, and the Abrams Fixture Corporation. Today, the Abrams Fixture Corporation site provides one of the few remaining linkages to Atlanta’s rich manufacturing, industrial, and architectural history.

The Atlanta Preservation Center is excited to partner with Braden Fellman Group and begin offering special hard hat tours of this space in July! Details and registration will be highlighted in next month's APC monthly so please stay tuned.

Save the Date: West End Tour of Homes

The Historic West End Tour of Homes (TOH), organized by the West End Neighborhood Development (WEND) showcases some of the most beautiful and historically significant homes in this BeltLine Community. The Atlanta Preservation Center is a sponsor of the 2021 Tour on June 26th. This year’s tour features eight beautiful homes, a church, and a museum located in the West End Historic District. Participants will go on a virtual journey through the Historic District viewing homes that have been restored to new life!

Georgia State University plans adaptive reuse of historic Bell Building
Plans are in motion to adaptively repurpose the c. 1907/1922 Bell Buildings in Downtown Atlanta into the new headquarters of the National Institute for Student Success. Listed on the Atlanta Preservation Center's Endangered Places List in 2014, the APC helped lead community efforts to prevent demolition and advocate for the historic building's thoughtful reuse. The APC appreciates and supports Georgia State University's plans to preserve and repurpose the historic Bell Building.

Most recently, the APC has collaborated with Professor Danielle Willkens and Georgia Tech School of Architecture students Kaila Andino and Asha McDonald on documenting this historic site. The APC is also building a partnership with Christina Zamon, Department Head of Georgia State University's Special Collections and Archives.  The APC looks forward to highlighting more of this collaborative work in the near future.
