Tiffany's Story

Tiffany left Southern CA with her son because of domestic violence. She needed to get connected to help quickly, as she was experiencing homelessness and had no means of income. Gilead House provided her with temporary shelter and asked us to help her. Our Intensive Care Coordination Manager, Isaura Resendiz, met with her and immediately saw Tiffany’s drive and determination to give her son a better life. We enrolled her in our TFI program. 

TFI is an intense program that connects clients to key services and supports that build self-sufficiency. Through hard work, weekly meetings with Isaura and the help of other community partners, Tiffany found housing and employment, got out of debt and, over the time span of two and a half years, became fully self-sufficient. 

Tiffany is now working as a family advocate for the Center for Domestic Peace and is even looking to purchase her first home. 

Tiffany has said to us that “she came from nothing,” but the reality is that she already had everything she needed on the inside. She now takes care of her thriving family with pride and joy. 

Shining Light on Mental Health

NMCS is honored to provide trauma-informed and culturally-centered services for people of all ages onsite at our Wilson Avenue center, at Novato Unified School District campuses and at our Novato Teen Clinic. This fall, we will expand our services to include Novato High School. Care is available on a sliding fee pay scale because we believe everyone should have access to quality mental health care. 

Since last July, we have provided mental health services to approximately 400+ individuals in need. This includes longer term mental healthcare, brief interventions and crisis response to schools in Marin. 

Committed to Providing a Living Minimum Wage for Staff

At NMCS we stand for fair and equitable wages and benefits so that people can afford basic living expenses (such as food, rent, childcare), remain employed in Marin County and be contributing members to their families and our community.

Our goal is to provide compensation and benefits to our employees at an equitable rate that reflects their experience, education and local market trends. As an organization that prioritizes equity and honors hard work, we have been increasing our minimum wage at a rate higher than the State of California and Marin County. For example, in 2017, we implemented a $15/hr minimum wage. We are pleased to let our community know that as of May 16, 2021, we increased our minimum wage to $18/hr.

We believe that attracting and retaining experienced staff, and investing in our diverse and skilled workforce, translates to the best delivery of services possible and to a stronger community for all.
