This term classes have been given the opportunity to take part in the HELL Pizza Reading Challenge, which is being run in conjunction with the 2021 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

The Hell Pizza Reading Challenge is a highly successful programme that gets kids reading and enjoying the pleasures of books with free pizza rewards.

Classes participating have now received their "pizza wheels"  and every time a student finishes a book, the wheel gets clicked off. Once complete the wheel requires a school authorisation stamp (available from the office) on the reverse of the wheel enabling them to redeem their free pizza.

A great reading challenge with tasty rewards!
A reminder from the school office to all of our whānau members...

All children are required to be at school by the school bell at 8.55 a.m.  The teachers first task of the day is to take the school roll and account for all students attending.  This is an important safety issue and is their first priority.  If your children are late for any reason please send them to the school office where a late slip is noted and the school roll is then amended.

If your child is absent for any reason the school office must be notified by either.....

contacting the school office on 838 9664 and talking to Juliette/Sharon/Rachael who are always happy to hear from you!
...or leaving a message on the school phone (messages can be left 24/7)
...or by texting 027 364 7271
...or using the absence button on the school app on your mobile.

It has been brought to our attention that explanations for absence are being sent direct to the class teacher via seesaw/google classroom/email.  If the teacher is absent due to sickness, attending an offsite course, assisting on a trip, out of their class on classroom release etc, these messages are not being passed on.  Please contact the office directly to report any absences.

If you are collecting your child from the class during the school day for an appointment etc please do not go directly to your child's classroom.  All students are required to have a "permission to leave slip" which will be approved through the school office.  No child will be released from any staff member without this.

If you are delivering lunch, wishing to administer medicine or wish to give your child a message please do not go directly to the classroom.  Please see the office and your child will be located and brought to the office to met you.  Alternatively the lunch/message will be passed onto your child on your behalf.

We ask that no parents/caregivers be onsite unless removing their child/children with an approved "permission to leave slip" during the morning tea and lunchtime breaks. Parent helpers who are staying for a period of time during the school day are required to sign in at the office and receive a visitors badge.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.
We are excited to share the news that Freyberg Community School will be welcoming the NZ ice skate tour to our school hall! This will be taking place on the night of Monday the 6th of September and there are only 12 spaces left - so get in quick. The school receives 20% of takings after the event so it is a great fundraiser for us! All students will receive an ice skating lesson during school time so it's a great opportunity for them to show off their new skills.

Freyberg Netball Update

It looks like an exciting time ahead with some 30+ students wishing to play netball and represent our school.

The first grading games for our senior students took place on Monday afternoon and I understand 2 games resulted in 1 win and 1 loss.  Mrs Temu assisted with umpiring and she reported great sportsmanship and very good netball skills.....she was super impressed.  Thank your Mrs Temu for helping us out at such short notice!

Again we would like to express our thanks to those parents who have put their hands up and offered to volunteer their precious time to coach and manage some of the netball teams. We still have some registration fees outstanding and would like to have all students paid in full prior to the first games.

Netball Registration costs are as follows:

Year 2 & Year 4 - $75.00

Unfortunately students are unable to play if their registration fees have not been paid.

Netball uniforms will be handed out to all Year 2 and Year 4 players next week in time for the first game of the season - i.e. Thursday 27th May.
Winter certainly has arrived with great gusto this week and I guess our beautiful long summer will soon be a distant memory.  With the colder weather here, we are asking all families to check that all school uniforms are clearly named - in particular polar fleece and windproof jackets, as it certainly makes it easier to return if they end up in another class or the school office.

The office carries all uniform supplies and we are well equipped with extra stock to assist those families wishing to purchase any winter polar fleece jackets.
Chronicle Contribution

Missing School Uniforms & Lost Property

Size 4/6 polo shirt - named Azariah Poppleton
Brand new girls black T-bar school shoes & swimming goggles - white and pink - named Riley Carseldine
Size 6 polo shirt - named Elijah Sila
Size 10 polar fleece jacket - named Catherine Duong - misplaced in Room 15

The stress created for students/parents/staff due to the loss of items could be avoided if all items were clearly named.  If you need assistance with naming any items office staff are more than happy to assist.

We also have 2 school hats with a special  "code/name" on them.  This may be relative to the child when looking for it in their class but not the office staff. If this hat belongs to your child please contact the school office and we will name this appropriately and return.

This week we have again added to quite a collection of drink bottles / toys and precious belongings being brought to school. Students are encouraged not to bring precious treasures as the distress caused with them being lost/misplaced is a problem which could be prevented if these toys in particular were kept at home.  If you think any of the pictured items belong to your child please give the office a call and we will gladly return them.
