Dear <<First Name>>,

We sincerely trust you are coping through all the storms of life, and we are grateful for the Scriptures that keep us focussed and encouraged to keep serving the Lord. Heb 12.2 says: "Let us keep our  eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." In spite of the pandemic, we have seen incredible growth. Read more below....
God bless, Barry Funnell

Dramatic growth

In spite of the pandemic restrictions TWFTW has seen a 30% growth in our number of projects from 136 to 165. How is this possible? It is because of our relentless mission of empowering nationals to do the work for their own peope.

Agencies who have a larger work force of foreign missionaries have slowed down due to the pandemic and the travel and visas restrictions, but by God's grace our translators, national directors and consultants have been able to keep working steadfastly.

CEO report

By the end of 2020 we had 27 New Testaments and 7 full Bibles at the publishers. Click here to read the inspiring full CEO Report for 2020 from Kobus van Aswegen.

God continues to amaze us by generous supporters that continue to help fund our 483 full time Bible translators and all these new publications. Thank you for standing with us in prayer and support.

Help us to aleviate Bible poverty! Still so much to be done, and YOU can make a difference....

Please join us in praise:

  • Thank God with us for the 5000 Sena Bibles which have been ordered for Malawi and also for 7 full Bibles recently completed by TWFTW and soon to be launched in Ethiopia.
  • One of our part-time consultants, a PhD lecturer in a large university in Nairobi, has agreed to join TWFTW full-time from Aug 2021. We have many projects starting in Swahili-speaking countries like Uganda and Kenya, and currently 22 projects in Tanzania.
  • We were able to conduct face-to-face training in Tanzania and Sudan in May.
  • We have designed a new course to teach oral communities to translate the Bible by using audio scripts rather than written ones. This course will be taught in two countries of SE Asia and the materials are currently being translated. This is a new trend in Bible translation as many people groups battle to engage with written material due to the majority of their people being illiterate. New technologies are helping to produce audio versions of Scriptures, even before written ones are produced.

More Sena Bibles

We thank God that TWFTW UK was able to pay £11,000 (50%) of the printing costs for a new print run of 5000 Sena Bibles. The remaining 50% will be covered by funds from TWFTW USA. These Bibles should be delivered to the Sena people of Malawi by the end of this year.

The Sena Bible was published and launched in 2006 after Barry and Julia spent 10 years working in Malawi with our translation team there. The full Bible translation was completed in a record 10 years but there is still a great shortage of Sena Bibles due to the poverty of the Sena people.

Thank God with us that almost 20 years later more Bibles are being printed, along with digital and audio recording being available online. Many Sena people have come to know Christ and are being transformed by His word.

Literacy work

Over the past 15 years more than 200 Sena literacy classes have run in various parts of the Sena speaking area of Malawi by three literacy coordinators. Thousands of Sena people have learned to read their own Bible for the first time.

A revision of the Sena literacy materials is planned before the end 2021. It will include a training component for other prospective literacy programmes in the region. This is exciting news as so many African adults are still illiterate. These mother tongue literacy programmes are also being introduced in schools in many countries.

TWFTW has many literacy programmes in Africa (18) and in Asia (17). Teaching people to read the Bible in their mother tongue is a great way to introduce them to Jesus and his love for them. Over 10,000 people have come to Christ through our literacy programmes over the years.

Please pray with us:

  • We are hearing alarming reports from our translation teams in some rural areas of Myanmar. Some are hearing gun shots throughout the night and shells are falling near their homes. There is serious danger of civil war erupting due to pockets of resistance to the military government. Please continue to pray for peace and protection. Please pray we can get much-needed funds into the country for the translation work.
  • The Covid situation in India is very serious. The country is in total lockdown says our national director. Ten separate virtual training events for 17 people groups were planned and conducted in SE Asia, and 4 new projects have started in spite of Covid. Pray for ongoing growth and tenacity of the translation teams.
  • The work in Nigeria has grown to 20 projects and a virtual training event is planned for June.
