"You can never plan the future by the past"
Edward Burke
With the countryside undertaking huge change, I've set up a Rural Science page on my website. From bees, to trees, how to engage farmers, upland pasture management, counterintuitive conservation research, click through to it via my latest blog https://robyorke.co.uk/2021/04/science-rocks/Do send me anything to upload
Birds and people - from conflict to co-existence
I'm moderating the day and giving a brief talk at a conf run by the British Ornithologists' Union in November 2021 https://bou.org.uk/event/birds-and-people-conflicts-and-resolutions/
if a farmer, warden, ghillie, gamekeeper or land manager, why not pitch a short presentation?
Dear Sir...(not again)
My 124th letter in The Times (Jan 21) is not an easy read - not many of them are, as they tend to highlight inconvenient complexity. Farmers and land managers are going to be paid to embrace public access, yet that can bring issues for the environment and land use.
I enjoyed my keynote speech to Cornwall Council Local Nature Partnership (while waving a plough-scored rock and fungi around) and then moderated question time with a diverse panel - see it all here
Bryanston School had a 3 min intro keynote from me on how to handle environmental issues (spoiler - tolerance, curiosity, and freethinking) - see it here (moderating debate to come)
Finally, after an exclusive, wide-ranging and hard-hitting interview with Prof Tim Benton early last year, I'll be getting round to publishing this in time for the next newsletter.
Do contact me if you wish me set up dialogue or moderate discussions online or in the field.
