Hi, <<First Name>>!
There have been a number of times I wanted to drop you all a note in the past 4+ months since I last wrote, but there's just been too much uncertainty to make it seem worthwhile. However, a number of things have occurred in the past couple of weeks that have brought everything to an inevitable conclusion today. Before I get to the reasons behind it, I'll give you the bottom line:
SAVE THE DATE!
Ramona Class of 1970 (50+1) Year Reunion
October 8-10, 2021
We don't have a venue yet or any other plans firmed up, but these are the factors that led to this rather spur-of-the-moment decision today:
- A little less than a month ago, Ramona's Class of 1971 announced the date for their 50-year reunion - Thursday, October 7, 2021, to be held at the California Citrus State Historic Park. They thought they'd try a mid week event to get a better rental rate on the venue.
- There are some (but not a lot) of Class of 70 alumni married to Class of 71 spouses, and I was reluctant to choose a totally different weekend to schedule our reunion for fear of losing some folks.
- I was waiting to hear back from Ramona Athletic Director John Tibbels to see if/when Ramona would release their football schedule so we could set a date that would coincide with a home game, preferably Homecoming or a crosstown rival team.
- This morning, I awoke to this message from John:
- I realized we could have two reunion events over a single three day period that would be synergistic and wouldn't diminish either event.
- Time is short (less than five months) and I'm really busy in the next couple of weeks, but it is doable.
- We might even be able to piggyback on Class of 71's plans for a picnic at Cal Citrus Park on Friday 10/8 in lieu of our traditional tailgate at the Ramona cafeteria before the Homecoming game.
Hence, this "Save the Date" email! As we've done in the past, we'll have Friday 10/8 to arrive, Saturday 10/9 to have the main event, and an optional Class of '70 picnic gathering or travel day on Sunday 10/10. And isn't October the best month of the year? Neither hot nor cold... just right!
I have a number of contacts for venues and caterers from last year so that I can pick up where I left off when COVID-19 threw us a curve ball in 2020. I'd like to aim for a Saturday early evening reunion event that would cost about the same as what the Class of '71 is charging... $50 per person (and we'll reduce it by $5 for a couple, to $95).
Hopefully, everyone will have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine by then (we may impose it as a requirement to attend so that we can relax masking and social distancing requirements for our event), so be sure to take care of that within the next month or two.
