Nelsen announces another round of direct payments to Sac State students in fall
|

Students can expect to receive another $600 to $850 in direct payments as Sac State is due to receive more federal funds. On Thursday, Sac State President Robert Nelsen announced plans for the university to spend $50 million in COVID-19 relief funds.
Similar to the last round of payments, the amounts will be determined by the student's financial aid and Pell grant status and how many units they are enrolled in. These payments are expected to be made in the fall.

Where did all that money go?: A breakdown of $63.8 million HEERF II funds

Sac State President Robert Nelsen recently announced that Sac State would be receiving $20 million in the third round of Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds. So, where did all the money from the first two rounds go?
Sac State received over $102 million in the first and second rounds of HEERF, with students being allocated around $63 million of that. The State Hornet spoke with Sac State's chief financial officer and others to find out where all the remaining funds are going.

Multimedia virtual art exhibit to feature ‘Expressions for Social Justice’

Sac State’s Center on Race, Immigration and Social Justice will host a virtual exhibit starting May 13, featuring 32 multimedia works produced by solo artists and groups from the Sacramento region centering on the titular theme of “unequal freedoms” – the systemic and social inequalities faced by marginalized communities.
The State Hornet caught up with some Sac State students and alumni who will be participating in the exhibit to preview their works and talk about their creative process.

Sac State women’s golf team ranked as 17th seed in NCAA regional tournament

After winning the Big Sky Tournament, the women's golf team have now set their focus on the NCAA Division I Tournament. The team was ranked 17th out of 18 going into the tournament but plans on staying competitive throughout the tournament.
“You got to play good, it’s simple,” said coach David Sutherland. “You want to get out in front, it’s hard to chase when you’re going against a good team.

Sac State baseball splits road series with California Baptist University
|
|
|
The Sac State baseball team split a four-game series last weekend against California Baptist University. The team is sitting third in the Western Athletic Conference and is unlikely to move any higher as the season comes to an end.
The Hornets will be taking a break from conference play to face University of San Francisco in a four-game series this weekend.

- The softball team ended its regular season with a 1-2 series loss against Southern Utah University last weekend. The Hornets will compete as the number three seed in the Big Sky Tournament against Montana State University on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the first game of the conference tournament. - The track and field team will participate in the Big Sky Championship beginning Friday. The event will take place at Weber State University in Utah.

Khalil’s Virtual Venue: Alternative Rock Subgenres

Music writer Khalil Bourgoub is back with another playlist, this time feeling inspired by his lack of rock music inclusion in previous playlists. Khalil is righting his wrong by dedicating a whole playlist to alternative subgenres rock songs that aren't mainstream yet.
Songs include "We Own The Night" by Dance Gavin Dance, "‘Strongthany" by Delta Sleep and "Reflection" by Balance And Composure.
