Before and Now

Arrkurla nakala, kurunga lyaata-ntama

This winter Iltja Ntjarra artists will feature at the South Australian Museum in Adelaide!

Our exhibition opens on Friday May 28th and will feature artists Mervyn Rubuntja, Hubert Pareroultja, Reinhold Inkamala, Benita Clements, Vanessa Inkamala, Kathy Inkamala, Betty Wheeler, Selma Coulthard and Clara Inkamala, alongside watercolours from the South Australian Museum’s collection.

This extraordinary display features historic watercolours from the South Australian Museum’s collection by the earliest Hermannsburg watercolourists including the celebrated Albert Namatjira, alongside contemporary watercolour works created by their descendants revealing the artists’ deep political and ecological concerns for their changing Country.

If you are in Adelaide make sure to visit this special (but temporary) exhibition!!!!

HUBERT PAREROULTJA

Tnagkara Nuka (Cultural Dreamings)

Exhibition Opening: Saturday 29th May 2021 2-4 pm
Nanda/Hobbs Gallery, 12-14 Meagher St, Chippendale NSW

"It is in this extraordinary environment that Hubert Pareroultja learnt to paint from an early age. His life of painting and living in the landscape has led to a unique understanding and vision of the country to which he belongs. His meticulous eye, and sense of the subtleties of colour translated through watercolour, is now collected and recognised world-wide. In 2020, Hubert won the prestigious Wynne Prize for landscape painting at the Art Gallery of NSW. It was the culmination of a story of an artist whose unique vision of the land has been decades in the making. And now, in Tnagkara Nuka (Cultural Dreamings)—held in conjunction with the Iltja Ntjarra Art Centre—the artist’s stories will be told through the painted surface to an ever-widening audience."
