City of York Council are bringing a range of parking and travel incentives to encourage residents and visitors back to the city centre to support the city’s ongoing economic recovery. New offers include a discounted resident’s Minster Badge for city centre parking, as well as a 50% off All York Family Ticket to launch from 17 May 2021. Find out more
PAPI, in partnership with Make It York are organising a free online Business Funding Roadshow event for B2B SMEs in York area to find out what grant funding and business support is currently available. The event will provide you with a single point of contact to enable you to access tailored support which is right for your business. Find out more and sign up
Starting on May 17th, SMEs and charitable organisations across the city of York will be able to access additional public funds to aid in the hiring of new apprentices or to develop existing employees. The funding is being made available by City of York Council from unallocated funds from its Apprenticeship Levy.

Businesses in the city are invited to take part in a focus group with cycle couriers, delivery drivers and business which depend on them in York city centre. With increase in delivery drivers and riders moving through York, City of York Council seeks to understand how the footstreets policy affects you and the experience of pedestrians in the city centre. Do you find yourself feeling uncomfortable at your desk? Join Make It York's next Connect Over Coffee event on 19 May over Zoom. This session will be all about the networking and will focus on making connections for your business. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a lot more Zoom breakout rooms than usual.

Scaleup Week 2021 running from 18 - 20 May will bring together scaleup leaders all across the UK to unlock potential, accelerate growth, and deliver impact. Led by BFG and Scaleup Institute, the Scaleup Week: The Business Plan will offer a week-long series of free virtual debates about the crucial issues and opportunities facing growing businesses. The brand new #LoveYork summer marketing campaign to promote the city as a staycation destination and help support the recovery of York’s tourism, leisure and hospitality businesses has launched this week. The campaign also includes an eight-week TV advert on Channel 4 focusing on welcoming people safely back to the city. Find out more
To ensure enjoyable and safe experiences for people coming into the city centre, Make It York is working with York BID and City of York Council to introduce new temporary outdoor spaces. New bespoke seating pods have been installed on Parliament Street, with a series of art benches displaying stunning artwork from local artists ‘Art of Protest Projects’. Find out more
An A5, 36-page #LoveYork Summer Guide has launched this month as part of the wider city marketing campaign. 50,000 printed copies are set to be distributed around Yorkshire and beyond, and an online version of the guide is also available. The guide features top tips and ideas for making the most of summer in York. Read the guide online
Running alongside the TV advert, the new 'Good to Go' video, created in partnership with Welcome to Yorkshire, promotes York’s ‘Good to Go’ status and the measures the city’s businesses have put in place to keep visitors safe. The video features Mad Alice from the Bloody Tour of York guiding visitors through the city. Watch the video here

York Minster is preparing to welcome back sightseeing visitors from Monday 17 May with three new exhibitions planned for the summer exploring the history, architecture and Christian story of the iconic cathedral church. The Minster has been open for worship since March, but it will be the first time people have been able to return for a general admission visit. Find out more
Entries are now open for the ASDA Foundation York 10K and Yorkshire Marathon. With York 10k described as one of the country’s most beautiful city runs and the Yorkshire Marathon the jewel in the White Rose County's sporting crown, all are invited to participate in this year's events. York Festival of Ideas will return from 8-20 June, celebrating a decade of educating, entertaining and inspiring. Offering over 200 events under the banner of Infinite Horizons, this year's programme covers topics as diverse as climate change, artificial intelligence, archaeology, health and space.

The world-famous portrait of Richard III will go on display at the Yorkshire Museum as part of a new display, from July 9 2021. The painting, which has become synonymous with the depiction of Richard III, is on loan from the National Portrait Gallery, London, and will be displayed alongside the museum’s outstanding collections associated with the King.
