Increased incentive payments for hiring young people

With the next stage in the roadmap to re-opening now confirmed, the focus continues to be on supporting businesses and people whose jobs or employment prospects have been impacted by the pandemic.

Apprenticeships
Employers who take on a new apprentice will now receive an increased payment of £3,000 for every new position until the 30th September. This is on-top of £1,000 payment allowance if you take on an apprentices under 18 (to help cover supervision costs) and on-top of the eligibility for training costs - Employers with fewer than 50 people working for them are able to get 100% free training for apprentices aged 16-18 or aged 19-24 who have previously been in care or who have a Local Authority Education, Health and Care plan. For larger employers, and those taking on older apprentices, the £3000 per new position is available - and depending on levy status, you can normally claim between 90-95% of training costs.
Kickstart
Employers can also access support under the Kickstart Scheme to create new 6-month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

The job placements should support the participants to develop the skills and experience they need to find work after completing the scheme and you will get 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions, employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions and a £1,500 per job placement available for setup costs, support and training.
  • Apply here directly (there is no longer a requirement to have multiple placements) or
  • Apply via Chamber of Zink project who are working across High Peak to support local employers and match them with young people seeking work.

Employers can also contact local jobcentres to discuss vacancies and recruitment support. For all enquiries in High Peak contact buxton.generic@dwp.gov.uk
