Am so excited to be starting a NEW hat! At the moment, it's only a work-in-progress. But, it's going to be lovely - fingers crossed!
Can you spot the orange-handled scissors laying on top of the Margilan silk fabrics? Laying out the fibers is so much fun! Next, comes the Merino wool layers...and of course, the actual feltmaking. It's a somewhat different color palette than typical - autumnal.

The hat will combine Iryna Spasskaya's 'Double Brim Technology' with the decorative methods that I learned via Lena Archbold's Fine Felted Scarf Class. The marrying of these two techniques works well and helps make them more 'mine.' If that makes any sense.

These orange-colored, digital collages were made exactly a year ago, when my family and I stayed in Fresno, California for a family emergency. It was an odd and unsettled six weeks.
Not having access to wool, being creative on the computer was a lovely escape for me. Architecture seems to have been an inspiration. Perhaps to go with the cocoon-like pods featured on the hats?

Off to photograph the now completed Coronavirus Hat, and then fill out the online paperwork for Fiber Art Now's annual exhibition, "Felt: Fiber Transformed.' In past years I submitted pieces. But, I became disheartened after a few years of not having the work accepted.
However, I am feeling more cavalier/confident (again). I may even include my Eggplant Hat as you can submit up to three pieces. So, why not seize the day!

PS: I found a very creative children's book that might spark your imagination - Some Things I've Lost by Cybele Young. I'm linking to Amazon, but you should be able to find it at your public library. Great metamorphoses of everyday objects that (I think) are crafted out of paper!
