HISTORY, COMMUNITY, SUSTAINABILITY
Watch Master Stone Carver at Work

Nationally celebrated stone carver Nicholas Benson is creating a special marble installation at Farm Fresh! Experience his mastery live and in person, 11am-1pm, next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday — May 20, 21, and 22! The Saturday viewing even coincides with Sims Market, so you can shop the farmers market at the same time.

The site of our new building was once owned by the company that built the RI State House. In the 1890s they erected a stone-cutting facility on our site solely for cutting State House marble. When our construction got underway in fall of 2019 we unearthed a great deal of marble and rescued many pieces that are now landscape features around our outdoor farmers market patio.

We set aside one very large piece for a special installation — atop a frame created by our friends at The Steel Yard — that is now being carved by Nick Benson! We hope to see you at Farm Fresh to experience this unique and historic event. Read more about it.

Sims Market Saturdays

Sims Market is an open-air farmers market every Saturday 9am to 1pm, year-round. This season we have indoor and outdoor vendors, food trucks, and spaced outdoor seating beside the Woonasquatucket River and Greenway. Sorry, dogs are not allowed inside.
Spring has arrived, with local harvest like Ward's Berry Farm asparagus!
We're excited for Garden of Eve, family-run Haitian restaurant, to be back!
We kindly remind you that masks/face coverings are required at all times — inside and outside the market. The only exception is stationary eating or drinking outside, where we offer food trucks and distanced seating. Please do not walk around the market without a mask on.
This season, Sims Market is considered an “open air market” — with open garage-style doors lining the market halls and vendors both inside and out. Starting
May 1, we will not be counting as you enter and exit the market, but will continue enforcing masks and safe distancing.

Providence Flea Sundays

[From @ProvidenceFlea]
PVD Flea is an urban treasure hunt. If you want it, you’ll likely find it here: the best-picked vintage, scene-breaking artists, local streetwear brands, handcrafted merch, jewelry designers, unusual plants, hand-poured candles, all-natural soaps and skincare, vintage vinyl, even pet goods and local nonprofits... plus artisan coffee and delicious street eats.

Find the Flea in the Farm Fresh Market Halls every Sunday 11am-3pm through May 23. June 6, the Flea moves to South Water St in Providence, 10am-3pm, for their summer season.

Grant Opportunities

The Rhode Island Farm to School Collaborative is happy to announce mini grants to support schools looking to implement Farm to School projects in Summer-December 2021.

Do you have an idea that would bring Farm to School activities to your school? Anything from indoor or outdoor growing, improving a garden space, lessons in the classroom, local food taste tests, connecting with parents around local food and school meals, or helping build back Farm to School activities that may have been interrupted by COVID. The Collaborative will award three deserving projects $1,500 each.

Proposals must be received through this Grant Application no later than 11pm on Friday 5/28 to be considered.

Eligibility, Process & Timeline
Workplan & Budget Spreadsheet (to be uploaded to your Application)
This just in from the Farmers Market Coalition:

It’s FMLFPP (Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program) season once again! The timeframe for applying is tight, with applications being accepted now through June 21.

The large influx of additional stimulus funds and reduced match requirement associated with these funds will hopefully allow for a broader group of applicants, including new, previously denied, and lower capacity applicants who may be unable to reach the 25% match typically required.

If you've thought about applying before, or applied and were not funded in the past, this could be a fantastic year to access this historic funding opportunity.
