SCQRs,
The Abdominal Hernia dashboard report containing the 2021 QI project measures is available on the Workstation.  You can access the information in the “Reports” section of the Workstation by selecting “Abdominal Hernia” from the pop-up window of reporting options.

The Abdominal Hernia dashboard includes individual graphs for each of the following project measures:
  • Preop - Preadmission teaching for pain management
  • Preop - Glycemic control
  • Preop - Patient optimization smoking cessation
  • Preop - Patient optimization weight reduction
  • Intraop - Complete hernia documentation
  • Intraop - Complete hernia mesh documentation
  • Postop - Postop order for multimodal pain management
  • Postop - Discharge education for pain management

Your final 2021 QI project performance will be based on a single score for each measure category (preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative).  A few specifics:
  • In the near future, we will be releasing a template you can use to aggregate the individual measure performance into an overall category score.
  • In the meantime, you can calculate this score for each category by adding up the numerators and denominators for each measure in the category, and then dividing the numerator sum by the denominator sum.
  • We will be adding a numerator column into the dashboard report display.
  • Be sure to set the “Emergent” filter to the correct value when looking at your performance.  Preoperative measures include only Elective cases.  Intraoperative and postoperative measures include all surgical priorities.

As a reminder, you can track progress on the M-OPEN opioid prescribing recommendation measure by using the Opioid Prescribing Dashboard available in the Workstation.  Be sure to use the Procedure Group filter to select “Abdominal Hernia”, and the “Period” filter to select “2021” so the appropriate procedures and measurement period are reflected in the graph.

If you want to identify cases that do not meet numerator eligibility in a measure, there’s a quick way to drill down to the case listing for the measure fallouts.  The document available in the Workstation Resources section called “MSQC Collaborative-Wide Measure Report Guide – March 2020” contains a tip on p. 2 that walks you through how to filter and locate cases that do not meet the measure.  You can apply this same filtering concept to any other dashboard report.

The Abdominal Hernia Measures Reference Sheet is located in the 2021 Quality Improvement section of the MSQC website.  It contains a listing of all QI measures in the 2021 Abdominal Hernia QI project.   Additional project documents are also available in the 2021 QI web page.

Please take a look at the new Dashboard, and reach out to us at MSQC-Info@med.umich.edu if you have feedback or questions.  We are currently working on the Hysterectomy Dashboard, and hope to have it ready for release in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned!

Thank you,
