This is a lovely book, a catalog of such knowledge, and such times, a sweet presentation of paying attention and loving attention, a playlist of fruits and nuts.

So funny, you can not not look at this, it is a runway of rare looks inside private worlds, the best interiors of the past 100 years. From Lautner and Capote to Wearstler and Vervoordt. That should get you there, and of course, it does. You barely have time for a drink or barely can do it without a drink. What fun and fortune.

Immersion : Living and Learning in an Olmsted Garden
Nola Anderson, photos Clemens,296pp. cloth, 2021 printed in Italy, $75.
In 1991, a couple purchased a historic twenty-eight acre seaside estate, north of Boston, in Manchester by the Sea. The centerpiece of the property were the gardens, designed in 1903-1914 by Frederick Law Olmsted. The buildings were a wreck, the gardens were left to their own, and the couple had never gardened in their life.
This is a big, sprawling, sweet tale of the land making a reclamation of its new owners, a tale of design and history and seduction, a tribute to the literal power of the landscape.
