The State Hornet is breaking down the money Sac State received from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds. Sac State has been awarded over $100 million between HEERF I and HEERF II.

Jonathan Bowman, Sac State chief financial officer, said through HEERF I and HEERF II around $52 million funds have been allocated “directly to students or made available to them through salaries and grants.” The big question remains: where did the rest of the HEERF II money go?

A social justice scholarship has been approved by ASI. The $500 scholarship will be given in the middle of both the fall and spring semesters to one full-time returning student each term. This scholarship is aimed at students who have a passion to fight against racism and stand for diversity.

“Leaving something behind and actually creating something that will outlast us, I think is important,” said ASI President Noah Marty. “I think, given the challenges that our students have faced this year, given the challenges we faced this year, a scholarship centering around social justice and anti-racism, I think, is the perfect way to allocate these funds.”
