Meditation of the Day:
Love overcame
Emerging from a cold tomb
All the truth, majesty and creativity of a living God.
Transforming a broken heart
Making a quiet return, in a still and sorrowful garden
The gravestone rolled away, to release redemptive love
Jesus resurrected and restored
Comforts a weeping woman
Speaks with travelers on a journey
Meets with his faithful friends
And they bow down before Christ alive
And acknowledged that the savior has arrived
And that the extraordinary transformation of heaven and earth
Is complete.

The Day of Pentecost
The Day of Pentecost is often termed as “the birthday of the church.” The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost, after the ascension of Jesus, to empower the disciples and devout Jews from every nation who were assembled in Jerusalem, when they began to speak in languages familiar to the assembled people. This is seen as the fulfillment of Jesus’ command and promise that disciples would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. They spoke in other languages and heard in their own native language. Using the words of Joel 2:28-32, Peter proclaimed that in the “last days” God will pour out the Spirit of God “upon all flesh” so that sons and daughters, young and old, and “even slaves, both men and women” shall see visions and prophesy; and “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:17-21) Pentecost is the “big bang” event that sets the events of the book of Acts into motion.

May 16 Special Speaker Report
|
|
|
Last Sunday’s special presentation by Larry Winecoff of St. James Episcopal Church proved to be enlightening and moving . Larry addressed the challenge facing the educational system due to the racial disparity between teachers and administrators and students; and the start of a new scholarship fund to GROW OUR OWN Teachers of Color. His approach to explaining the practical advantages of increasing the number of minority teachers and administrators while interspersing this with biblical references to our obligation to help lift up our brothers and sisters in need was inspiring.
Please consider donating to this scholarship fund as investment in our community. Checks can be made out to Holy Family Episcopal Church with “Grow Our Own” on the memo line.

Hello All,
As many of you know, Tim Vannoy (Rita Beth’s husband) has had a tragic accident. Last Tuesday he feel off of a waterfall in Chimney Rock and was airlifted to Mission. Initially they found a severe brain injury, a broken femur, and a collapsed lung. They decided to put a shunt in his brain to help with the bleeding, and the next day fix his femur. They also decided he would need facial reconstruction surgery at some point. He is intubated and sedated to help his body rest. Since then they have stabilized him. He has had a few other issues pop up that they have addressed over the last week. They are giving him antibiotics for possible pneumonia, they have found brain aneurysms which are being watched closely. They think the brain aneurysms are from his blood pressure raising so high from the pain. He is responding to touch and his pupils are responding to light. He was getting really agitated from all the poking and prodding, so they are hopeful that if he can come out of the brain injury then he will be able to recover from this. Luckily he was a very active and healthy young man before the accident and the doctors say that is really on his side!
Tim, and his whole family are in real need of your prayers. They are such a sweet little family. Rita is spending every night and the hospital while she spends most of the day with the Tim Jr and Callie. We must rally around them with our love and support!
For those asking how we can help them, you can either bring a gift card for Rita to use while going back and forth to the hospital, for gas or food. You may also write a check to the church and we will make sure it gets to her and she can use it for whatever need may pop up!
Thank you all for the prayers, they are so appreciated! If you have any questions or concerns please call me directly, I am in almost constant contact with Rita and will pass along any prayers and messages along! 8283296145
God bless you all,

IAM Food Drive Status

A one ton food donation to Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM) by year’s end has been adopted as a goal by Holy Family. Yes, this sounds ambitious, but let’s look at how the goal can be met. If 25 folks contribute 9.5 lbs per month over the remaining 8 months, that, along with what has already been donated, will result in a one ton food contribution. So when you go to the grocery, pick up some extra canned goods, a sack of potatoes, some jars of spaghetti sauce, or peanut butter, and we can easily reach this goal. (Can you tell an an engineer wrote this?)
So let’s kick our Holy Family generosity up a notch and reach out to our community’s needy. We can do this!
