The World Looks Different from a Boat!

A few months back we spent a weekend away with friends camping on the Tumut river. For those who aren’t familiar with Tumut, it is a picturesque town that sits in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. The town itself has the Tumut river flowing through it; a beautiful river filled with crystal clear water and plenty of trout! By now most of you know that I don’t mind dropping in...

Pizza Procedures
This term Year 2 has been discussing procedural texts. We have looked at parts of a procedure and jointly constructed a procedure for making pizzas. On Tuesday we put our written work into practise and made mini pizzas together. This was both an educational and tasty learning experience. As well as writing, we were also able to tie in the mathematical concept of arrays, as we talked about the placement of pizzas on the trays and how arrays are often used when cooking. In science we have been studying Marvellous Materials and were able to use the pizza making lesson to talk about adding heat to a material to make irreversible changes, a topic which we will discuss further in coming weeks. Year 2 followed up their pizza making with individual procedural recounts,  drew on previous knowledge relating to the recount text type.

Peachey/Richardson Shield (Primary Rugby League)
On Monday 10th May, selected students from Years 3-6 travelled to Condobolin to participate in the Peachey/Richardson Shield. This was a great opportunity for PCS students to learn the rules of Rugby League and participate in several games throughout the day.
Understandably, many students were nervous as the day began. The idea of playing games involving tackle took a bit of getting used to. However both teams became quite confident at tackling and being tackled by the end of their first game.
Throughout the day, both teams played a good competitive game. I was genuinely surprised at the high amount of tries scored and how close the games were. Students of particular note included Ryan Hodge who received a game ball by blocking several tries and Nicole and Kelly Ellis who were awarded a voucher due to their speed and quick thinking.
Most importantly, PCS students demonstrated determination and sportsmanship across the day. They encouraged each other as well as other teams, played fairly and showed respect to all the officials at the event. Between games, they also practised their teamwork and plays, ensuring that their skills were sharp for each game.
Thank you to Alex Prout and the team at Rugby League NSW for organising the event.

Year 9/10 Design and Technology
Year 9/10 Design and Technology students are engaging in a new project to learn about materials, tools, processes and engineering.
Students have “borrowed” Mr McCutcheon's go Kart and have made a template to build their own. The class have split into two groups, nominated team leaders and divided into sub groups each with an important role to play in the design, development and construction of the karts.
Students are highly motivated in their learning endeavours and have demonstrated initiative to communicate and resource this project.
I have a feeling they are very keen to test and evaluate a completed project!

Hot Dog Day
On Wednesday, the SRC ran a great hot food day for their peers. They all pitched in to complete the different tasks and really worked well together. Some students enjoyed their first hot dog meal so much that they had to buy a second. Thank you students, staff and parents for supporting us on our hot food days by ordering, collecting orders, buying ingredients, preparing, guiding students and with the clean up afterwards. We are excited and looking forward to our next hot food day.

Your Role at School: Mathematics and Science Teacher, Year  Advisor for Year 12 and Co-SRC Teacher.

Favourite School Memory: Last years swimming carnival when the Eagles won.
Fun Fact: I love Sci Fi series like Farscape, StarGate and Firefly.
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: The Students and Staff.
Favourite Quote/Verse: John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.
Name: Annette Moss.
Your Role at School: Learning Support Coordinator, Kindergarten Teacher and LNAP Instructional Leadership Team for Years K, 3, 4, 5

Favourite School Memory: I don't have one that stands out. Here are a few. Having the star role in my Kinder and Year 2 plays. (I peaked early in my acting career.) Playing lots of handball, sitting under the trees to eat our lunches, running really fast at a family fun day and winning the ribbon, hobby groups on a Friday afternoon in infants school, loving maths class (crazy I know) and making great friends (we still get together).
Fun Fact: I like laughing so hard it makes me cry and you smile or even giggle to yourself when you think of it for days after.
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: The great students and the fantastic staff I work with.
Favourite Quote/Verse: This year it is... Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. and... Kindness costs you nothing. For many years this has encouraged me... You can't control other people. People have the right to think and say whatever they want to. But you do have the right not to take it to heart, and not to react. What other people think of me or say about me ought not to influence what I know to be true about myself. (Robin McGraw)
