The Raiders of the Lost Tomb will be at it again – Kalk Bay Caves Meet Sunday 23 May
We will meet at 09h00, on Boyes Drive, above Kalkbay Station at the start of Echo Valley – we will be parking on the Rd. One can also find parking at Kalkbay Station area and walk up the the stair to Boyes Drive.
We will be hiking up Echo Valley for about an hour and then up to Boomslang Cave which will take us through the mountain, exiting above Clovelly – this cave involves crawling, a huge Cathedral in the middle ending up with a bit of a wade! Next up will be Oread Halls, a delightful cave, with a chamber at the end where the sun shines into through a small hole in the roof. Next will be free drinks saloon, in the entrance to Devils pit with a possible crawl into Horripilation Chamber!
We will hike through to the Amphitheatre for lunch – we may do a cave or two there and then we will head via the Spesbona Intermontaine Forrest to the old mule track and back to the start.
You will get dirty, so bring an overall or old clothes to wear inside the caves, head light with spare batteries and footwear that can get wet. Going through Boomslang one needs to push or pull your back pack along so pack light and small. At all the other caves we can leave our packs outside.
An exciting day, with great views awaits us and if the day is nice one can end off with a swim in some of the tidal pools along the coast or Fish Hoek beach
