Swain County High School to Host  "Clue"
The comedy mystery “Clue” will hit the stage at 7 p.m. May 7-8 and 14-15, and 2:30 p.m. May 9 and 16. Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, “Clue” is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. Advance tickets may be purchased online at

Strawberry Jam Festival - Sat. 15 May, 2021 10:00 am - 11:30 pm
The 21st annual Strawberry Jam festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Darnell Farms in Bryson City. The Darnell family celebrates their locally grown strawberry crop. Enjoy local music, local food, fresh fruits and vegetables, craft vendors, plow demonstrations, childrens play area, hayrides, fishing, camping, and much more. Admission is free. Ron Hunnicutt Exhibit at Macon County Public Library - Sat. 15 May, 2021 10:00 am - 11:00 am
“Faces,” an exhibit of drawings by the late Ron Hunnicutt, who passed away in February, will be held May 15 through the end of June at the Macon County Public Library in Franklin. The public is invited to an opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the library. 828.524.3600.

MEC is a high school in Macon County offering a smaller academic environment that fosters growth and success. The early college program prepares students for college, career, and life by developing relationships, responsibility, and respect through relevant and rigorous coursework.  MEC serves grades 9-13 and is fully integrated into the Southwestern Community College system. Students have the opportunity to graduate in four or five years with a high school diploma and a two-year Associate’s degree with transferable credits to a four-year university.

Applications are Currently being Taken for the Macon County School’s PreK Program for the 2021-2022 school year.   Applications may be picked up at the Macon County School’s Central Office or at one of the 3 PreK school site locations.  A child is eligible for NC PreK funding if they turn four on or before August 31 of the program year (2021), but is not yet five years of age and the family meets income guidelines. Hiking:

 

Volunteer Trail Workdays -    Thu. 13 May, 2021 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
A series of volunteer workdays are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays, with sites in North Carolina on May 13, 20 and 27 and in Tennessee June 10, 17 and 24. In addition, a special opportunity will take place in North Carolina Saturday, June 5, in honor of National Trails Day. Space limited. Register with Adam Monroe at 828.497.1949.

 

Haywood Parks and Rec Hikes -      All day
Haywood County Recreation and Parks Department will lead a hard, 9.2-mile hike on Wednesday, May 12, on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail from Waterrock Knob to Soco Gap, gaining nearly 1,000 feet in elevation along the way. On Sunday, May 16, the department will lead an easy 2-mile hike will offer a leisurely meander along Campbell Creek. Hikes are $10 apiece, paid at registration. Space is limited. Holly Springs Baptist Church, 2nd Mile Ministry is open 10 to Noon Mondays providing a food pantry, children's clothes and financial aid (rent and utilities) for families and seniors in need. 

Friends of the Greenway  FROG Quarters is now open Wednesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to  2 p.m.,  at 573 E. Main in Franklin. Stop by for coffee or a soft drink and a snack, use our free internet.  You can also reserve the shelters for your events there.

Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Centers in Cullowhee and Franklin have an educational parenting program to earn “points” to use to obtain free items for your family. The centers carry formula, diapers, wipes, baby items and clothing up to size 6, as well as strollers, car seats, high chairs, pack n’ plays, etc. Donations are always welcome. CareNet on Bidwell Street will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A box of food may be picked up once a week.

Uptown Gallery on Main Street new hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Five Fire Departments in Macon County – Nantahala, Cullasaja, Sky Valley, Clarks Chapel, and Burningtown – are open Monday thru Fridays for drive up food deliveries from 1 to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs food.

Gospel Conversations Training Conference: Tom Ford is coordinating this Free Gospel Conversations Conference on March 6 from 8:30 to 4:30. A boxed lunch will be provided in the Fellowship Hall. This hands-on interactive training includes practice of all the tools with an option to engage people in your community as we pray for laborers to be mobilized for the mission.
