Wanted: Summer Observations of Connecticut Warbler
Looking to give your summer birding a purpose? Atlas data have already identified Connecticut Warbler as a species in sharp decline, so we're looking to to supplement atlas observations with additional sightings. You can help by visiting Connecticut Warbler breeding habitat from June 10 to July 20 and reporting any observations of this species to eBird, along with appropriate photo or audio documentation.
New eBird Developments Pave the Way for Final Vetting eBird continues development behind the scenes in preparation for the final atlas data cleanup. In recent weeks, eBird has added back-end functionality to allow us to manually change errant codes. This week, they added the ability to see breeding codes on all records at a pin. Remember, you can explore current live data here. We're still planning to involve local atlasers with the final steps of data review when we get to that point — it's currently scheduled for this fall, thanks for your patience!
Seeking a Post-Doctorate Researcher for Abundance Modeling Please help us spread the word if you know anybody interested! We are recruiting a post-doctorate researcher to help us analyze atlas data and make distribution maps. These complex models will go above and beyond the breeding status maps to explore how the numbers of a bird species vary across the state. With the data coverage we have, we're expecting great things from this process. We are now searching for the right person to dive in and crunch the numbers.
Support Bird Conservation with the Great Wisconsin Birdathon The Great Wisconsin Birdathon is happening now through June 15 to support seven priority bird conservation projects. If you're looking for a team to support, consider backing atlas coordinators Nick and Ryan, throw some support to a local crew, or create your own team!
It's Spring! We hope you can find some time to get outside and enjoy nature!
