Saturday, May 29 | 10:30am-12pm
As part of the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum's series “Growing Community: Connecting the How and the Why of Gardening,” nationally known thought leader Akiima Price will explore the ways that green spaces can contribute to a connection to place and strengthen the overall health of communities. Garden facilitator Derek Thomas will guide participants in garden housekeeping, the planting of corn, peppers, and tomatoes, and training plants as they grow.
Gardens are more than seeds and soil. They can be unexpected and important sites of community empowerment. They allow us to connect with the land while feeding the people we care about. During this six-part series, virtual participants will learn techniques for growing vegetables and herbs at home and explore the history of gardening in DC’s East of the River communities.
