Update and news 14th May 2021

Dear <<First Name>>,
Welcome to this week’s newsletter. We hope you find this useful in terms of giving you an update on what is happening at Culliford and what we’ve been up to, including any updates regarding COVID.

ACP – Advance Care Planning

Julie Tombs – Head of Care and GSF Lead Co-ordinator

We believe that Residents should have the right to develop an advance care plan if they wish which sets out the care they want to receive if their physical and mental health declines to the point where they lose mental capacity.

During the COVID-19 pandemic Culliford House believes that Residents having an advanced care plan (ACP) in place or being able to review existing ACPs is of high importance. This incorporates discussion around how COVID-19 may cause individuals to become critically unwell, and a clear decision about whether hospital admission would be considered.

Culliford House wishes to support its Residents to make informed decisions during this unprecedented time and work with general practitioners, community healthcare staff and community frailty team and other relevant health care professionals to discuss emergency care planning and treatment in person centred discussions.

Where possible, the home includes ACP discussions before a person comes into the home as part of the person’s needs assessment. It does this by, for example, asking the applicant and their relatives to identify their wishes and preferences regarding future care so that there are agreements in advance on the courses of action to be taken.
Some families find this difficult but where carried out it helps to reduce the conflicts of interest that frequently arise when decisions based on assumptions about what the person might or might not want to have to be taken.

Please do also email Julie Tombs our Head of Care and GSF Lead julie.tombs@cullifordhouse.co.uk if you have any questions around Advance Care Planning.

Visiting
From Monday 17 May care home residents will be able to have more named visitors and more opportunities to make visits out with no need to self-isolate when they return. As part of the Prime minister roadmap of easing restrictions, the number of named family members or friends able to visit their loved ones in care homes will be increased from 2 to 5, as the visiting restrictions continue to ease. A maximum of 2 visitors will be allowed at any one time or on any given day.

Please click on link to see latest guidance.

Marnie Moors our Deputy Manager and Julie will be contacting family members to make arrangements for further designated visitor visits. Please do email Julie Tombs our Head of Care if you have any questions or concerns around visiting.
