‘HEAD’ Lines
Cautious Progress
Dear Parents/Carers
As we approach the next stage (stage 3) of the Governments roadmap for unlocking, I wanted to use this week’s ‘HEAD’ lines to remind parents of why we continue to be cautious in our approach to the easing of any COVID Secure measures in school.
As you will be aware, from Monday, students no longer have to wear a face covering in classrooms or communal areas. Interestingly, many of the students I have spoken to have said they will be continuing to wear a face covering as they transition between lessons, as this is the only point during the day where they will come in to brief contact with students from other year groups inside a building.
If students travel to school by public transport or dedicated home to school transport, they must continue to wear a face covering for the journey.
Other than face coverings, all our other COVID secure processes will stay in place:
The requirement for students to carry out Coronavirus tests twice a week will remain in place. Students will receive a new box of tests next week.
Social distancing, where possible, will remain in place and it will be explained to students that just because you are allowed to hug someone, this should be kept within close family groups and not with school friends.
Students will continue to be encouraged to use hand sanitiser on a regular basis.
All desks will be sanitised between classes.
All shared equipment such as PCs will be sanitised between uses.
Regularly used touch points such as stair rails will continue to be cleaned frequently throughout the day.
Enhanced ventilation will continue.
Our one way system will remain in place such that students are all traveling in one direction between lessons and not crossing over in corridors.
Please have conversations with your children over the weekend about the need for them to play their part in keeping themselves and the rest of the John Hanson community safe.
“The colours began fading 7 weeks ago, the day after my mother disappeared.”
When 17 year old Minnie Sloe’s mother disappears, she loses her ability to see in colour…. How can artist Minnie create pictures when all she sees is in black and white? Literally.
Middle-child Minnie and her sisters were meant to be artists like their famous mother, the 3 siblings shared everything from artistic rivalry to absent fathers, and their mother’s mental highs and lows.
As it becomes clear that her mother may never come back, Minnie realizes she could lose everything: her family, her future, her first love…..and maybe even her mind.
This book also includes a number of helplines, which is amazing. The author said that this was one of her “must haves” when she was in the process of getting the book published
Please encourage your son/daughter to use their SCHOOL EMAIL for work rather than their own private email. This is important for safeguarding and also some of our messages for students are being sent to school email addresses.
The first issue of a new Careers magazine, Make the Future Yours! has just been published. It is aimed at helping young people find a direction and assisting them make those all important decisions about their future.
The link to the digital version is www.makethefutureyours.com/issue1 It automatically adjusts to the device: smartphone, tablet or PC, making it easy to view.
Word of the Week:
Please see below for the ‘Word of the Week’. These words have specifically been chosen as they are both useful and sophisticated whilst encouraging challenge and extended vocabulary use. Please challenge your child (and yourself!) to use this week’s word as much as possible at home, in conversations, and in their work!
