Coaches' and President's Notes:
Head Coach:
I hope everyone is excited for our 2nd regatta and the first for many of our novice athletes! Some things to keep in mind for regattas: when we load the trailer, it is important that everything is strapped down very tight and you learn how to strap down boats. Coxswains should have their charger to bring home to charge their cox box. Bring your own water and snacks, things like granola bars, bagels, fruit, protein recovery things for after the race. Currently everyone will only have one race, but prepare for having at least 2 for later in the season and be able to refuel after your race. Other items that could help you out at the regatta would be extra clothing layers, toilet paper, lightweight shoes for bringing in the boat with you when you launch, and make sure you have your uniform! We will pass this weekend's uniforms out Friday at practice for the new rowers. Know your event name, number, and lane so that when you arrive at the start line, you know where you will need to maneuver to and begin your race once the referees have everyone aligned. Double check and triple check your equipment and row with confidence in yourself and your teammates!
Our remaining regatta schedule is
May 15 – Regional Park Regatta
May 22 – Walter Mess Regatta
May 29 – Darrell Winslow Regatta
June 5 – Ted Phoenix Regatta
June 12 – Al Urquia Regatta
June 18-19 – Virginia State Rowing Championships
See you at practice and let's have a great weekend of races!
Coach Phil
President:
We’re back!!!! In a triumphant return to racing, 3 of our experienced boats raced last weekend and what a glorious moment for our athletes!! Not only did they race well after such a long break from regattas, but they inspired their teammates, coaches, and parents with the tenacity and drive they’ve demonstrated during this challenging time. If you listened closely, I think you might have even been able to hear our novice rowers cheering from Bull Run last Saturday as news from the finish line made it to them. We have much to celebrate and be thankful for due to the amazing crew family we are lucky enough to be a part of. Fire up the VASRA twitch channel this weekend and watch our full team make its debut on the water.
