Friday 14th May 2021

Dear families,

We know that May is the month of the Holy Rosary. Our forest school has been turned into a Rosary Walk that classes have accessed this week.

Please take a moment to find your rosary beads and say a decade of the rosary.

Think about those you love or are need of a helping hand.

There are changes to Government Guidance coming into effect which will impact on all of lives in the coming weeks.

The wearing of face masks on the school premises and
following the one-way systems is still vital.

Please treat school staff with respect – they are implementing the school risk assessments.

Walk to School Week
Next Week is National Walk to School Week!

So, get moving and encourage your children to be more active during Walk to School Week 2021. The 5-day challenge takes place from the 17th to the 21st of May and is designed to help children reach their minimum 60 minutes of exercise per day.

What are the benefits of Walk to School Week?

Being active and getting some exercise in the morning before arriving at school will help set kids up for a positive day; improving focus and concentration, and instilling a sense of physical and mental wellbeing.

Walk to School Week is also designed to extend beyond the week itself, by encouraging healthy habits for life with a focus on exercise, diet and wellbeing.

There are many health benefits to walking:

Exercise helps develop strong bones and increase muscle strength. It also tones the whole body.
  • Walking gets the heart pumping, which can help improve cognitive function for lessons throughout the school day.

  • Walking helps to improve mood. Getting outdoors and making the most of natural daylight makes for a positive start to the day.

  • When walking to school, children can relax and let off steam before they head into the classroom to learn.

Walking to school can help children to feel more independent, confident and in control of themselves too. They'll learn the route from home to school, which can boost their navigation skills, and they'll learn more about road safety. Once children are old enough to walk to school by themselves, they'll already have the confidence and the knowledge that they need to get there safely (and in time for their first lesson!).

So come on Team SMAAA -
Get Walking Everyday!

Curriculum Update

Day of Many Colours

Our School Council suggested that we celebrate our school community and everyone being special.  They wanted everyone to be colourful and cheerful.

Next Friday 21st May (The last day of this half term) all classes will be coming to school dressed in colourful clothes.

Please start to think about how colourful you can be!

Attendance

If your child needs to be off school for reasons other than illness you must make a request using the following form. School will decide if the request will be authorised and send you a letter.

Any pupil having an absence without making a request will be classed as unauthorised – so it’s really important that you inform us!
The best attenders this week are...

Class 8 - Mrs Ferguson  = 99.3%

Class 6 - Mrs Elliott  = 99.0%

Class 4 - Miss Haigh & Ms Trayer = 97.00%

This is Brilliant - Keep Up The Good Work!
Come on every other class... let's beat them next week... by being in everyday!

Being on time is just as important!
Here's Why.....
Attendance - Reporting Absences
Reporting ALL absences is even more important at the moment. This helps us to keep the building Covid-19 secure.

Parents please make sure you follow our procedures, so we don't have to isolate any bubbles.

Please telephone school on 0151 477 8400  on the first day of absence. You can also send an email to Admin@smaaa.info

Tell our admin staff the reason for the absence, and when you expect your child to return to school.

All unexplained absences will be looked at by our Attendance Lead, & possibly the School Attendance Service, so it's really important that you report all absences by 10am on the first day of absence!

Remember if your child is off school due to illness,  hospital  or dental appointments,  you must  also send an email with a copy of the medical letter / proof to Admin@smaaa.info

We cannot authorise any absence without proof!

Pope Francis Tweets
Pope Francis sends us inspiration via his tweets.

Our favourite one this week is....

"Praying is not easy. Each time we want to pray, we think of many other activities that seem more important and urgent. Almost always, after putting off #prayer, we realise that those things were not essential at all. This is how the Enemy deceives us. #GeneralAudience"

Covid-19 Information

Bringing Items Into School.

Can we please remind parents and children that items from home (Such as Teddy Bears, Toys, Stationery, Fidget Spinners etc.) should not be brought into school.

We must keep the building COVID-19 secure, to keep all our families safe!
Remember:

If anyone in a household is sick or showing signs of illness;
nobody from the household should come near school.

If someone is waiting for a Covid-19 test result
the whole household should not come near school!

If anyone in household has a cough, temperature, or loss of smell,
then a PCR test is needed, at a test centre, lateral flow tests cannot be used!

We do not want anyone put at risk!

Please note that the situation around Corona virus is rapidly changing and the information is correct at the time of sending this communication.

We will be updating further, as we have further information available.
