WEBINAR INVITE
All about GARDIAN
Wednesday 15th December 2021 at 2:00 pm UTC

Dear colleagues,

We invite you to a presentation on GARDIAN, the Global Agricultural Research Data Innovation & Acceleration Network. GARDIAN supports the exploration and visual querying of data; responsible data management towards open and FAIR outcomes, and secure data exchange and collaboration on code development and data analysis. To do this, it offers several tools and services:

GARDIAN search engine,  enables the discovery of publications and datasets from the almost 40 institutional publications and data repositories across CGIAR Centers to enable value addition and innovation via data reuse. It employs text-mining to enrich the harvested native metadata to enhance discovery, and will soon test data mining techniques with cleaned, well-annotated datasets to enhance interoperability.

- CG Labs, an open collaborative data science platform that allows researchers to work together on the same project using datasets securely transferred from the GARDIAN search engine and other trusted sources small and large, including genetic data, large climate modeling data etc.CG Labs helps discoverability, visualization, and collaborative analysis of data using R and Python. It enables secure transfer and storage of computer program codes and data files through Globus.

- FAIRscribe, a user-friendly workflow that helps users to submit to repositories publications and datasets compliant with the FAIR principles.

-  PII checker that is built into the FAIR workflow and also available as a docker to help ensure that data uploaded to repositories does not expose Personally Identifiable Information.

During this webinar Medha Devare will describe the different tools available in GARDIAN and present the latest updates.

She is a Senior Research Fellow at IFPRI and leads one of the three Modules of the CGIAR Platform for Big Data in Agriculture, spearheading efforts to operationalize the FAIR Principles towards Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable data. Prior to this she led the CGIAR System‘s Open Access and Open Data Initiative, and as a Scientist with CIMMYT, coordinated a project to increase the productivity and profitability of small farmers and the sustainability of farming systems in western Nepal. Before moving to CIMMYT, Medha worked at Cornell University where she also received a PhD and helped develop VIVO, a semantic web application to represent research and scholarship.
