The World
Pray for ways that all people may live in safety and security. Pray for the people of Mali, where half a million have been forced from their homes, 6,000 have been killed and many are impoverished. Pray for Nigerian parents pleading with government authorities to save around 136 students kidnapped by gunmen. In India, COVID has caused a rise in cremation costs, and consequently bodies are being buried in sand or immersed in the Ganges. In Afghanistan, violence in Kabul continues. While focus on environmental protection gains attention, in Bangladesh 70 tigers – an endangered species – have been killed. We pray for Rohingya refugees there, protesting to the UN against squalid and cramped living conditions following their escape from Myanmar in 2017. In Myanmar, talks between the military officials who have seized power, and ASEAN leaders proposing aid and working towards stability are threatened by the military’s exploitation. As a global community, we pray concerned by economic and job losses, as the International Labour Organisation forecasts a 75 million shortfall caused by the vaccine rollout being slower than expected in the presence of a resurgence of coronavirus variants.
Our City and State
We pray for those who especially fear the rapid and highly infectious strain of Coronavirus which has caused our current lockdown and its extension. Help us all to act responsibly and considerately, to follow the health advice from authorities and to make thoughtful decisions about vaccinations. We ask for ways to assist those trying to cope with loss of income and significant plan changes.
The Anglican Communion
The Church of the Province of Myanmar (Burma) (Abp Stephen Than Myint Oo, Primate). Reconciliation is the hallmark of Anglicanism, the heart of the gospel and a life to which we are all called. Help us, following Reconciliation week here, to be mindful of all we as a community can learn from first nations people through avenues of art, environment and spirituality.
The Australian Anglican Church
The Diocese of Brisbane (Abp Phillip Aspinall, Regional Bps Jeremy Greaves, Cameron Venables, John Roundhill, Dean Peter Catt, Clergy & People).
The Diocese of Melbourne
Tintern Grammar (Brad Fry, Principal; Alison Andrew, Chaplain); St Stephen’s Congregation - Karen Community Werribee (Moe Win Tun Kin).
Our Cathedral
We pray that staff will continue to find creative ways to engage in ministry despite restrictions and changes of plan, and that we will all work together to make Christ fully known in transforming our City and Diocese as we celebrate Trinity Sunday.
