Water Shortage & Power Outages
Taiwan is experiencing drought and an “energy tri-lemma” right now. To combat drought and meet growing energy demands, Taiwan performs planned, power shutdowns and cuts off the water supply twice a week. Thankfully, these inconveniences do not affect our lives too much. All our needs are met, and these minor inconveniences are nothing compared to the joy of serving here in Taiwan. Christ is worthy!

Know what sells out during a pandemic in Taiwan? No, not toilet paper or gasoline. Instant ramen!

Coronavirus Storms Taiwan

To complicate matters, COVID has finally breached the island of 24 million people. We are currently on Level 3 Lockdown (there are 4 levels). Due to rapidly rising cases, the government has prohibited indoor gatherings more than five (5) people or outside groups more than ten (10). Sadly, these temporary regulations prevent us from corporate worship and fellowship with our gospel co-laborers and friends. These tight regulations are cumbersome and discouraging, especially because we are unable to continue gospel conversations with our contacts in person or host guests in our home at this time.

Calm in the Storm

Nevertheless, our peace and hope is indestructible for we trust in Christ alone. We do not fear death, because we are confident in our sovereign God Who does all things well according to His infinitely wise plans. We pray that our lives may be a testimony of God’s grace and peace amidst the mounting pressure and fears the Taiwanese people are experiencing.

Counting Our Blessings

Praise God for He carries our burdens and sustains His people (Ps. 55:22), so that we can joyfully endure all kinds of trials (Jam. 1:2–4). We are thankful that our language studies can continue unimpeded through online video sessions. Natasha, Audrik, and I keep working at the language. Lastly, we thank God for sending some much needed rain during this drought. Praise our Triune God Who covers the skies with clouds, waters the earth with rain, and causes the grass grow (Ps. 147:8).

• Prayer Point
  • Pray for COVID to come to a swift end so restrictions may lessen and churches reopen.
  • Pray for God to stir the hearts of the Taiwanese through these uncertain times and cause them to repent and trust in Christ as their One and only sure anchor of hope (Heb. 6:19).
  • Pray for God to grant us peace in trials, patience in suffering, and power and boldness in our witness for Christ.
