Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership

Tuesday 1 June 2021

Hi <<First name>>

In this edition, we share a curated list of resources for National Reconciliation Week, three key takeaways from the National Dialogue event focused on Indigenous cultural competency in the Australian teaching workforce, and a sneak peek of a new formative assessment platform.

National Reconciliation Week 2021

We have compiled a list of AITSL staff picks for teachers and school leaders to continue the conversation and actions around reconciliation beyond National Reconciliation Week 2021. It is a varied list with film, podcast, professional learning resources and more.

What are your top reconciliation resources? Please feel free to share them in the Teachers Supporting Teachers group on Facebook.

National Dialogue 2021 - Indigenous cultural competency in the Australian teaching workforce

National Dialogue keynote speaker: Nathaniel Tamwoy
AITSL recently held the National Dialogue as part of its ongoing work to understand how to support teachers and leaders develop their Indigenous cultural competency.

Three things that we heard clearly from participants:
  1. The profession requires a national approach that can be implemented at a local level.

  2. A collective statement of action, informed by and developed in partnership with the profession and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, is required.

  3. There is so much goodwill and encouragement from the profession that this work is timely and we must impact change now.

Your feedback on formative assessment

In collaboration with ESA and ACARA, AITSL is working on the Online Formative Assessment Initiative, which aims to provide Australian teachers with innovative formative assessment solutions.

You’re invited to view a video demo of the Spindle prototype and share your feedback, which will help us develop the best possible solution.
