Dear Liberty Families,
Thank you for working side by side with us this year to educate your children. One bright spot of Distance Learning was the ability for parents to observe teaching strategies and support children with those same strategies. Next year as we welcome even more families back in person, we will look for ways to continue to provide you with opportunities to learn about the learning strategies used in the classroom that you can support at home. Your partnership this year was invaluable and we thank you!
As we celebrate the conclusion of the school year, we can’t help but be proud of some of the remarkable accomplishments this year:
Christine Mendoza, middle school teacher at Las Brisas Academy, was honored as a Presidential Science Teacher of the Year
100% of Estrella Mountain Elementary 8th graders promoted on track for high school, college, and careers as measured by Lexile reading levels
The Technology Department deployed and supported more than 3,600 plus Chromebook devices and 300 hot spots this year
Parents, students, and teachers partnered together in children’s learning
Freedom Elementary School implemented a new Communication Arts signature program
Construction was launched and is reaching completion for both the Liberty Elementary School Rebuild and Blue Horizons Elementary School, thanks to community support provided by the past bond election
Lynne Hahn was selected as a winner for the Barbara Park Memorial Grant for over $700 worth of books for the Freedom library
This summer is busier than most. We have expanded our Summer Learning Lab for K-1 and 2-3 students so that we can provide intensive intervention for an extended period of time to the children who need it the most.
Teachers and the Educational Services department will be working on curriculum revisions and professional learning so our teachers are well equipped with the know-how and resources to accelerate learning next year.
There are also a couple of opportunities for parents to participate in summer district work. See the calendar and budget committee articles later in this newsletter.

Mask Requirement Lifted
Masks are now optional for students, staff, and visitors in all district facilities and vehicles.
At the June 10 Governing Board meeting, the Board will review recommendations for other mitigation strategies for next year, including cleaning and other everyone's safety, so that families can know what to expect.
Learning Options for Next Year
All seven of our schools will provide traditional, in-person learning next year. Additionally, we know that some families are looking for a virtual remote option for their children’s education. The Liberty District will provide both options so parents can choose what is best for their children.
We know that for most parents, In-Person Learning will be their choice. No additional action is needed for placement in an in-person learning classroom. If you know you are interested in a remote option or aren’t yet sure, click here if you would like to learn more about Liberty’s Remote Learning Option for school year 21-22. Students will be taught by certified Liberty District teachers who are trained to deliver quality, online teaching and learning.
If you wish to have your child placed in a Remote Learning school within a school, click here to complete the form authorizing the district to withdraw your child from the current school and enroll in a school for Remote Learning. The new Remote Learning experience will require that an application for the 2021-22 school year be submitted by Friday, June 11th.
Parent/Staff Advisory Committee Opportunities
Calendar Committee
The district adopts school-year calendars for three consecutive years. If you would like to provide input on school start dates, vacation breaks, and holidays, please email alibarra@liberty25.org.
The committee will meet in June and work in collaboration with the Buckeye Union High School District. Recommendations will be shared with the Governing Board for approval in July.
ESSER III Budget Committee
The district will receive additional federal funds to address challenges from COVID. The funding is intended to intervene with student learning needs.
ESSER funds are essentially one-time funds that cannot be used to support other ongoing operational needs such as programming supported by the district override.
If you would like to provide input on how the funds are allocated to best serve the needs of students, please RSVP to alibarra@liberty25.org. The budget committee will meet one to two times in June.
Internet and Device Discounts and Subsidies
The Arizona Department of Education has developed a survey to assist districts in identifying technology needs within school communities.

COVID-19 Vaccinations Available, but not Required for Ages 12+
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination has received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the FDA for use in individuals ages 12-15 years. In Arizona, consent for minors to be vaccinated is required by at least 1 (one) parent or guardian, in-person, AND verbal affirmation of child’s age 12+.
No other personal identification is required. Vaccines for students are available at:
Pediatrician/Family Physician Office
Federally Qualified Health Center
Local pharmacy (Fry’s, Albertsons, Safeway, CVS, Walgreens, etc.)
NOTE: Fully immunized students do not need to quarantine if exposed and are not exhibiting COVID-like symptoms.
According to Pfizer, vaccines for children ages 2-11 years are projected to be available in September.
