Message from the Pastor

Starting today, Dane County won’t have a mask mandate in place for the first time in nearly a year. Although I still wear a mask in public spaces for vulnerable people, I cannot help but say that it is a joy to be able to see each other’s faces and talk.

When Jacob met his brother, Esau, whom he had cheated and taken the birthright on the other side of the Jabbok River after a long wandering (Genesis 33), he said, “seeing your face is like seeing the face of God.”

Today, I invite you to carefully look at your friends' and neighbors' faces which were hidden behind a mask for a long time. Why don’t you spend some time observing the face of your loved one? What about your own face reflected in the mirror? If you look through the eyes of love, you will see the image of God in their faces.

“The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:25,26)

Community, Art, and Awareness

The students of Glenn Stephens Elementary recently partnered with Ripple Effects to bring beauty and awareness to our neighborhood. The program uses storm drains as a canvas to educate residents about stormwater pollution. When you're next in the neighborhood, be sure to check out the drain in front of our church building at the corner of Rosa Road and South Hill Drive—it now features a wondrous mural designed by the students themselves!

Calling on All Decorators!

While looking forward to our return to in-person worship, we've begun sprucing up our building to make for a warm welcome. Plans and ideas include seasonal decorations in the sanctuary and entryway, acquiring new worship banners, re-imagining meeting rooms, and more. If you are interested in helping with any of these aspects—interior decorating, seasonal decorations, making banners, etc.—please reach out to Cindy Raisbeck at cknewstart@gmail.com or 608-772-0405.

Maryanne's Take on the Bible Readings

Welcome to another week of Bible reading! This Sunday will be the second Sunday after Pentecost and there are some interesting and widely varied selections chosen for us. As I’ve said in the past, the readings don’t always have to be about the same subject or have a theme in common. At first sight that looks to be the case this week. Let’s see what we can gain from reading: 1 Samuel 8:4-20; Psalm 138; Mark 3:20-35; 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1.
