Message to the Staff, Rina's Resources, News, Our Employees of the Month, and OT Tips plus Birthdays and Anniversaries!

Greetings From Helen

Dear Staff and Friends,

Another month has flown by.  I have managed to travel to NYC and to Tampa, Florida, for very sad and for very happy occasions.  The airports are crowded, masks, for the most part, are on.  Food service is skimpy if existent.  Bring your own bottle of water, as even beverage service is limited.  I have missed travelling and seeing loved ones, but the airports, especially LAX are overwhelmed.

We are gradually opening  our offices.  Most of us have been vaccinated and are feeling  safe about being in the office.  Some of the staff has remained unvaccinated.  Although they are far and few, we are legally unable to mandate vaccinations, so those unvaccinated employees will need to wear masks when entering our offices and while working with clients.  Our other safety rules like hand washing, etc…. remain in place, always.

I hope you’re having a great Memorial Day and we look forward to seeing all of you in the near future.  Stay safe!  Helen

Kymberley Wheeler

May Speech Employee of the Month!!!

What is the best part of being an SLP?

I am so lucky to have a job that I love!  The best part is definitely getting work with children and their families.  I love getting to be a part of a multidisciplinary team and working together to help our students.  There are so many opportunities to learn and grow as a therapist and a person. This job never gets boring!

What is your best advice to a new therapist?

Believe in yourself!  Your life and unique experiences bring so much to the clients you work with.

Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for support or advice. Sometimes we think we need to know everything about everything and that just isn’t possible.

What is your favorite therapy tool for virtual OR in person therapy?

I had never provided virtual therapy before COVID. Transitioning to virtual services was definitely a huge challenge.  Now I love it! (well, kind of….)

Ultimate SLP has been surprisingly amazing!  I love the variety of activities and goals that can be addressed. I also love using short films - the kids love them and we can target so many goal areas.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love the beach and try to breathe the sea air whenever I can!  I also love hiking and any kind of nature therapy. I read cookbooks for fun and enjoy trying recipes.

My oldest son is finishing his first year of college in NYC. I’m looking forward to getting to travel a little more and visit him.

Thank you Kymberley, for all of your hard work!

Jamie Garcia

May Behavior Employee of the Month!!!

Tell us about how/ why you entered the field of behavior?
I entered the field because I love working with children and growing up my brother was autistic and I saw how hard it was to see my mother find ways to help him out and I just knew he would have benefited from having the support of a BII. I wanted to be that support for my brother. I wanted to provide that support for any family that struggles to help advocate for their child.

What are some thinks you look forward to daily in your sessions?
I look forward to seeing my clients smile and hearing them speak up for themselves. I love to see the programs that we implement play out in daily situations.

How has virtual learning impacted your ability to connect with your clients?
Virtual learning has definitely been something that everyone had to get accustomed to. I am grateful that Im still able to connect with my clients regardless of the new changes. By having the full support from teachers, parents and BID’s it has helped me connect with my clients even more.

What are some fun activities you like to do during your time off?
Somethings I like to do during my time off is having game nights and going to car meets with friends and family.

Name one popular tourist attraction in Los Angeles that you have NOT seen
One popular tourist attraction that I have not seen in person is The Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Thank you Jamie, for all of your hard work!
