Mermaids and a Whole School of Fish!

I’ve never had the courage to participate in a musical or school play. The closest I came to being a legend of the stage was playing Bob Hawke in Year 5! I distinctly remember adding flour to my hair to turn it grey and anxiously rehearsing my couple of lines before giving a stirring speech no doubt! However, that was where my theatre career ended! During high school and since, I have thought that participating in a musical or play looks like a lot of fun but...

Kindergarten
In Biblical Studies this term Kindergarten has been learning about the story of Joseph through Betty Lukens flannelgraph felt stories. The vibrant colours and interactive nature of this tool brought the story of Joseph to life and bestows a lasting impression to our students. Children enjoy engaging activities that appease their curiosity and invite them to ask questions about the world around them. Biblical studies this term has helped to further develop inquisitive minds and cherish core values this school upholds.

Year 4
Week 8 of Term 2! Seems like we started school for Term 2 just two weeks ago, but here we are with only three more weeks until the holidays!
At the beginning of Term 2, we welcomed two new students into Year 4 which takes up our roll to 17. Life and learning in the Year 4 room is always exciting and fun!
Since the COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, we have been looking forward to the trip to the Shire Library on Tuesday next week.
For Friday Sports we get taught Tennis skills from the best coach in town: Mrs Helen Magill.
In the classroom, the Year 4 students have been pulling apart and openly discussing our memory verses for each fortnight which applies specifically to how we do things in class or anywhere! How we love God's Word!
We love our 2021 Class Motto: Love like Jesus! Care like Jesus! Do like Jesus! Speak like Jesus! Simple as it is, it has been something that we have been reminding each other in the classroom - that we have to love, care, do and speak like Jesus Christ all the time.
A blessed week to all the PCS families.

Shire Library
The day that started our Winter was an exciting one for Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2.
We were able to share a visit to the Parkes Shire Library.
Emma showed us around the new Library. It had lots of interesting spaces to read and study.
Emma then read us a story. We loved the story but we especially loved her big purple chair.
The fun and excitement continued as we were let loose to borrow books of our own.
The new Library is amazing and our visit was so much fun.
We love books and really loved an excursion that was all about BOOKS!
Thank you Miss Barrass and Emma for organising this wonderful afternoon of discovery for us.

Year 7/8 Art
Stage 4 Visual Arts have enjoyed using technology in a creative and fun way to produce digital mosaics by using Google Drawing. Students chose their own picture from the internet and then transformed the image into a mosaic by using coloured shapes they specifically chose to represent the image.

Year 7/8 Science Fair
The Year 7 and 8 Science Fair was held on Tuesday. The students set up their projects in the hall and then were interviewed by Mr Westcott, Mr Ballantyne and Mr Quince. The students had to be able to communicate what their hypothesis was as well as what they found out.
Students did an amazing job of researching over e period of time and the scope of the projects was fantastic; from mouldy bread to do Shrimps change colour when you feed them different foods, glow in the dark eggs to what is the best ratio of ingredients in the Elephant toothpaste experiment.
The students should be very proud of their efforts in the first-ever Science Fair at PCS.
State Cross Country
We were met with cool weather and raised dust at the Sydney Equestrian Centre on Friday 28 May, but that did not stop the 22 competitors from PCS putting in their best efforts as they took to the course. From our youngest competitor in Year 2 all the way through to our three Year 12 competitors, every student represented our school with excellence. Not only did they put in their best effort over the course, but they showed exemplary behaviour throughout the day.
Our students took their places amongst the best runners in the state, with over 100 competitors in some events. With huge fields and a number of highly prepared students from across NSW Christian School, we were delighted with the results of our students.
In 2019 we had one competitor break into the top 20, this year Chloe Amery followed up that amazing performance with a 12th place finish in the 14 years girls over a 4km course. Laura Rusten had prepared well for the day, with daily runs at home and this certainly paid off with an 11th place in the 18 years girls over a 4km course. Running the 4km course was not too hard a task for Thomas Fredericks either who had been preparing with parkruns and other training, which resulted in a 14th place finish in the 14 year boys also on a 4km course. The last race of the day saw PCS produce one final top 20 finish with Jack Greenland running the highschool 12 years boys 3km course and coming in 12th place.
Many PCS students improved previous state representative places, moving up the field significantly. For others this was their first time and just being in Sydney at a state level event was a rush that brought on nerves and stellar performances.
Talk has already started about how students can be prepared for next year. Congratulations to all the competitors on a great effort at the carnival.
A big thank you to all the parents who travelled to Sydney with their students and supported them in this great experience!
High School Burrendong Excursion
Friday was fresh, but that did not chill anyone's enthusiasm as the High School headed to Burrendong Sport and Rec camp for a day of team building and adventure.
It was wonderful to see all students get stuck in to the various challenges including archery, mountain biking, survival skills and team tasks.
They prove themselves yet again to be willing to give anything a go and deal with each other with friendship and patience.
Thanks to the staff at Sport and Rec camp for a wonderful day and our bus driver's for keeping us safe on the roads!
PCS Staff
Name: Ben Pearce.
Your Role at School: School Chaplain.

Favourite School Memory: Fun in general, normally at the expense of other things.
Fun Fact: While studying, I slept in a vehicle on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, just for the fun of it.
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: Christ known, Christ applied, Christ felt — the working environment is one where the Christian worldview is greatly and vastly unfettered in comparison to other working environments.
Favourite Quote/Verse: "Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music." George Carlin Then Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world-to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice” (John 18:37).
Name: Matt Denmead.
Your Role at School: Year 5 Teacher and Year 3-6 Welfare
.
Favourite School Memory: When I was in Year 8, my music teacher convinced me to participate in a guitar competition. Thanks to the encouragement of my teacher and my family, I was able to conquer my stage fright and win the competition.

Fun Fact: After repairing one of my bicycles, I decided to test it out by riding it all the way from Parkes to Orange. Sadly, I was too tired to ride back home again.
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: Working with this wonderful community of students, parents and staff.
Favourite Quote/Verse: John 3:17 - For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. (What a great reminder of God’s character and of His undying love for us.)
