Re-queering identity: Colonialism, Sexuality, and Gender
June 17, 2021 | 10 EST / 15 BST / 16 CEST

In celebration of Pride, Paths to Action brings together an international panel of LGBTQ+ activists working to re-queer identity. Join us for the discussion.

Speakers:

  • Naveen Kundanmal: Queer, Trans Digital Creator, and Writer - Naveen.kundanmal@gmail.com

  • Brian “TAXIPLASM” Gonzalez: Mexican-American Queer Artist & Filmmaker, screening “INVISIBLE VIOLENCE” film excerpt (https://midheaven.network/invisible-violence) with talkback - https://taxiplasm.com / taxiplasm@gmail.com

‘We’ve (always been) here, we’ve (always been) queer, get over it’

In their bid to maintain power, colonial regimes resorted not only to military force but imposed and controlled the identity of their subjects both at home and abroad. Anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and social values were a core element of colonial power. Today homosexuality remains criminalized in many countries, and new waves of anti-trans legislation and broader LGBTQ+ discrimination are taking hold in Europe and North America. How can we redefine and reclaim gender, sexuality, and identity in the context of colonialism?

Queerly Beloved: Our First Queer Open Mic
June 17, 2021 | 12 EST / 17 BST / 18 CEST

A safe space for everyone LGBTQIA+, allies, and all of us still figuring out who we are and where we fit in the world.

For hearts that need help carrying the load, or a space in which to sing. Bring yourself, bear your soul, or simply sit with us as we hold this space for others. Midheaven Network & Paths to Action are excited to present our first queer open mic, and we’d love for you to join us.

Bring poetry, monologues, music, art, dance, or everything else you can think of and we can show on a screen. Make us laugh, make us cry, make us think - we have space for anything you want to share with us.

Each participant will have a 5-minute slot for their piece. You are also welcome to perform in pairs or groups. Follow the link to sign up for a slot, and let us know a bit about yourself and what you would like to bring.

Queerly Beloved is a safe space, we are sex-positive and we have zero tolerance for all forms of racism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, exclusion and erasure, and any other form of discrimination.

To ensure this is a safe space for all we will be pre-screening acts.

PEAC is proud to partner with the United Nations Association of Fiji on this transportation and economic development project. This is about Safety AND Economic Empowerment! The average Fijian makes $60 USD a week. Helping to build this dock and purchase a safe boat enables villagers to focus on their families rather than this project that would remove food from their table.

By helping the people of Wainidova have access to education and food we leave no one behind!

Please help by donating or sharing with your friends and network!

Such an amazing episode!  H.E. Leon Kaulahao Siu was dropping such powerful knowledge! If you've ever wondered how an island like Fiji ends up impoverished or how Hawaii ended up being a part of the US, come check this episode out! We're eating Poke, learning about all kinds of traditional Hawaiian food, and talking about the movement to reinstate the Hawaiian Kingdom as an independent country!

You can enjoy this and all our meals anytime that works for you! Watch all our episodes on MIDHEAVEN.Network
