Summer Book Discussions!

Join us this summer for 2 Book Discussions for Adults & Teens!  As part of the Greendale Welcomes Diversity Action Plan, the Greendale Public Library has selected two books to discuss with an emphasis on diverse authors and/or topics of discrimination and racism.  The first book discussion will be regarding the book The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennet listed above in the Adult Programs for July. The second event will be a Meet The Author & Book Discussion for teens & adults on the young adult novel, The Assignment, by Liza Wiemer:

"When an assignment given by a favorite teacher instructs a group of students to argue for the Final Solution, a euphemism used to describe the Nazi plan for the genocide of the Jewish people, Logan March and Cade Crawford are horrified. Their teacher cannot seriously expect anyone to complete an assignment that fuels intolerance and discrimination. Logan and Cade decide they must take a stand. As the school administration addresses their refusal to participate in the appalling debate, the student body, their parents, and the larger community are forced to face the issue as well."--Adapted from jacket.

Liza Wiemer is an award-winning educator with over twenty years of teaching experience. The Assignment is her second young adult novel. Liza has had two adult nonfiction books published and several short stories included in the New York Times bestselling Small Miracles series. She has had articles published in various newspapers and magazines. A graduate of UW-Madison, Liza has two married sons and lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her husband, Jim.

Both books will be available to checkout at the library so stop by the library today to get your copies or call us to schedule a curbside pickup!  To find out more information and to register to participate, go to the Library Events Page on the GPL Website.
