Graduate Studies is excited to celebrate our 2021 graduates at both our limited, in-person processional on June 10 and our virtual commencement celebration on June 11. Dr. Sima Asadi Earns Award for Best Doctoral Dissertation in Engineering
Dr. Sima Asadi received the Zuhair A. Munir Award for her dissertation on airborne infectious disease transmission. Her work has been recognized by researchers from different fields and upon the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, received attention from the media and health organizations worldwide. First Nations Rocket Team Achieves Lift Off
UC Davis graduate student Colton Baumler and postdoctoral scholar Maria Maldonado served as advisors for the American Indian Science and Engineering Society’s First Nations Launch Team. The team competed at the NASA-sponsored First Nations Launch Competition on May 15. Learn more about the First Nations Launch Team’s recent victories.

FELLOWSHIPS, GRANTS, AND FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES 

Graduate Student Career Development Assistance Award
Deadline: June 15 | Learn more and apply
The Internship and Career Center offers a $500 award to a current UC Davis graduate student who has completed an unpaid internship in support of their career development goals between January and June 2021. Remote internships qualify.


Apply for the 2021-22 Global Food Initiative Fellowship!
Deadline: June 24 | Learn more and apply here.
The UC Office of the President’s Global Food Initiative Student Fellowship Program funds student-generated research, related projects or internships that focus on food issues. Proposed projects must be focused, achievable and substantially complete by May 2022. Fellows receive a $3,000 honorarium. Email campus fellowship coordinator Gwen Chodur with questions.


Apply for Graduate Student Association Professional Development and Fall Travel Awards
Deadline: July 31 | Learn more and apply here.
Graduate students who attend conferences or other professional development opportunities between July 1 and December 31, 2021 can apply for Graduate Student Association (GSA) travel awards. Award recipients will be awarded $250 to cover the cost of registration, membership, and abstract fees for virtual opportunities. Reimbursement for in-person travel expenses must follow University guidance at the time of the event. Applications open June 15.


Apply for Graduate Student Association Orientation Funds
Deadline: August 15 | Learn more and apply here.
Orientation Funds are available to support graduate departments who wish to host events at the beginning of the academic year to welcome incoming students. Graduate students may apply on behalf of their program between August 1-15. Applicants will be notified of their program's award amount by the end of August. 


Apply to the Fulbright U.S. Scholars Program
Deadline: Sept. 15
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar program offers diverse opportunities for U.S. academics, administrators and professionals to teach, research, do professional projects and attend seminars abroad. Applications are now open for the 2022-2023 year. Visit the website to view the full catalog of awards.

Call for Nominations: Outstanding Graduate Program Coordinator Awards

Graduate Studies recognizes the vital role graduate program coordinators play in supporting UC Davis graduate students. This year, we seek to recognize three graduate program coordinators who have an outstanding record of advising and supporting graduate students in their program. Nominations are due June 30. Learn more about the Outstanding Graduate Program Coordinator Award, eligibility requirements, and submit your nomination today!

Take the CEE’s Graduate Students and Postdoc Needs Assessment Survey
The UC Davis Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) wants to know how we can best support graduate students and postdocs in their teaching. Complete the 10 minute survey to help inform CEE’s efforts to provide programming that supports effective learning and teaching at UC Davis. Survey participants will be entered into a drawing to win Amazon gift cards. The survey will close on Friday, June 4, 2021 and winners will be contacted the following week. Take the survey now! 

Accessing the Library VPN Now Requires Duo Authentication
Beginning Monday, June 14, the library VPN–which enables access to many journal articles, databases, digital media and other library resources from off-campus–will require Duo authentication in addition to the user's UC Davis Kerberos (CAS) login. Learn how to use Duo with the library VPN.

The Melvyl Library Catalog is Retiring: Here’s How to Prepare
On July 27, UC Library Search will become the single online catalog for the UC system—encompassing everything in the UC Davis Library catalog and in Melvyl, the UC system catalog that is being retired. If you use Melvyl, be sure to download your saved lists, searches, and personal bookmarks or links to Melvyl records by July 26. They will not transfer automatically. Here’s how to prepare for the transition.
