YES CONTEMPORARY + TERREMOTO
ART WRITERS GRANT

YES Contemporary Art Writers Grant is dedicated to cultivate critical dialog around topics relevant to contemporary Salvadoran art. This year, YES partnered with Terremoto magazine to award a writer based anywhere in the world, a $500 honorarium as well as the publication by Terremoto.

Terremoto is a cultural platform dedicated to critical thinking around contemporary art that takes place in the American continent with an editorial approach that starts from trans/feminist knowledge, the decolonial and queer/kuir quest that triggers artistic and curatorial practices.

YES Grant for Art Writers was established in 2015, with support from Gabriela Poma and Susanne Meline.

Exhibition review

LABORATORIX 01
LA ÚNICA GALERÍA

By Patricio Majano
Image: Gabriela Novoa. Courtesy la Única Galería.
Galería La Única presents Laboratorix 01, an exhibition featuring the results of an experimental workshop hosted by the gallery, that addressed the gender roles that are present in Salvadoran society.

It is important to recognize that Salvadoran culture is predominantly patriarchal and heteronormative, and that this has been assimilated in part of the artistic production, especially during previous decades.

This exhibition opposes to this aspect of Salvadoran and Latin American culture, questioning it to address important issues such as gender equality, discrimination, body image, and more, drawing on the experiences of each artist, which enriches the dialogues that can be created from the artworks.

The exhibition is clear in its statements, claiming a place in the arts for the presence of these dialogues that reject conventionally patriarchal culture.
