This year, has come to an end, but your learning with engaging minds and hands on is just the beginning. Despite the ongoing pandemic last year, D. A. T. E. is even more committed to offering you all a first class educational experience. When we welcome all of you back, you will have a few more new faces and new programs, as well as new environments. I am so excited about all the new opportunities for you.

Our Vision Is Engaging Hands And Minds Through Environment, Agriculture  And Technology.

For example, Our Student Lounge will be filled with table games and electronic games to provide excitement during your down time, or even if you are rewarded to just chill by your classroom teacher. Enjoy anything from indoor basketball, play-stations to air hockey and table tennis.
You will also have new additions to the agriculture family. We have four new sheep that will warm your heart. Please be patient, as they are shy and fragile right now. There are so many lessons to be learned from the sheep, from shearing  to milking.
Our additional CTAE Course will offer Aviation to provide additional enrichment with drones and the process of flying. There are so many skills learned from  aviation courses.
We can't wait. Students will be able to start the process of receiving their  license as a teenager with the completion of this course.
Finally, We now have our S.T.E.A.M. Complex that will be dedicated to the instructional fortress of STEAM and provide additional room for science, technology, band, theater, art and math courses. We are so thrilled to provide spaces to ensure that we develop and nurture the whole child.

Dr. E. Wilson
Middle School Principal

As this very different school year draws to a close, I would like to take a moment to share a few thoughts & sentiments. None of us ever imagined that we would begin our school year at home and then move to hybrid learning. For a while, it felt as if normalcy in our school would never return. Now, we find ourselves reflecting on the unprecedented year that is ending and preparation for the next year with everyone in the building has begun.

Parents, I would like to thank you for your commitment, grace, and cooperation as our teachers continued to provide quality learning experiences from their homes and the building.  Our students have done an awesome job in navigating the virtual space and becoming responsible for their learning. They are resilient and have learned numerous lessons that will impact their future learning and decision making.

As we begin our summer break, I encourage you to allow our students to relax and have fun.  Yes, learning can still occur, but make it engaging! Please be sure to read communications  throughout the summer regarding the 2021-2022 school year.  I wish you a safe, healthy, and great summer. I look forward to seeing each of you face to face in a few months.

WOW! How can it already be the end of the school year. This year, has definitely been very different, but we made it. We made it because of our wonderful staff, students, and community. As we wrap the school year, I want to personally thank everyone who contributed to our scholars. I look forward to the 2021-2022 school year, as we continue to educate.

WOW! What another fabulous year of Environmental Science. Students had an opportunity to learn more about the ecosystems of DATE.  We enjoyed seeing Andy the Bull each morning.  We observed his presence and interaction with the Nigerian Dwarf goats, and chickens. He was a very gentle giant.  Then, we acquired 4 baby sister sheep who are slowly getting used to all of the other animals in the pasture.  We planted green- beans, squash, lettuce, kale, sorrel, radish, marigold, and tarragon in the aquaponics and watched it grow from germination to harvest.

Our outdoor garden gave us sunflowers, cabbage, carrots, and collards.  We watched the red- eared turtles in the pond sunbathing, as we collected eggs from the chicken coop for breakfast.  We even watched a few eggs go through the entire life cycle to produce new baby chicks.

We balanced the water levels, weighed the fish, watered the garden, built work tables and so much more.

Then, we went out with a bang, during our STE(A)M Day, incorporating virtual components that allowed both in- person and virtual learning to take place.

Now is the time for us all to take a short break; but be sure to READ over the summer and we will come back again next school year and do it all again.

Be proud of yourselves you all are AWESOME Scholars!

Love you guys,

Mrs. Shillingford

May is mental health awareness month. As we prepare to rest our minds over the summer, it is important to acknowledge all that you have accomplished this year. Nothing is too small when you look at how large challenges appeared before us this school year. We have had scholars overcome tragedy, loss and mental fatigue. They continued to push through and give the best version of themselves that they had to give.

I challenge you to rest. To look at June and July as a time to rebuild yourself and understand that knowing how you personally cope with challenges will help you achieve success in the future. The end of this school year will symbolize closure for many of us to a year of uncertainty. Remember to know your limits. I have included some resources for therapy that might benefit you or someone you know. Please pass them along as they could shine a light for someone else.
