We’ve had some great things to celebrate over the past month: Papal Awards, O’Shea Shield wins, Pentecost & young people receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Just a few of the highlights of things that go on in our faith communities all across the diocese.

In this update we’re focusing on refugees and migrants, as we are will mark a Day of Prayer for Refugees and Migrants on June 20.

TOWARDS AN EVER WIDER “WE”

On June 20, the New Zealand Catholic Bishops ask us to all mark a Day of Prayer for Refugees and Migrants. This date is celebrated as World Refugee Day around the world.

Pope Francis has written a message for the global church for a World Day of Migrants and Refugees. This is celebrated later in the year but is relevant to our celebrations in June.

Living in Community | Te Ahi Kaa o Mātauranga

Te Ahi Kaa o Mataūranga – The Hearth Place of Learning is the Diocesan Catholic Young Adult Community. Based in the Palmerston North CBD, this is where 20 – 35 year olds can spend a year focusing on prayer, hospitality, formation and service. In this article, current community members reflect on their experience thus far.

Stories of Transformation | A tool for Mission

In a few week’s time priests, lay leaders and diocesan staff will gather in Palmerston North to further explore where we are being called in our mission as disciples and what specific tools can help us along the way.

Alpha is a tool that will be focused on during these discussions and leaders currently engaging with it will share their own stories of transformation.

A month of celebrations | Papal Award & O’Shea Shield

We have celebrated some well earned successes in the last month. In the same week Tony Murphy received a Papal Award for his 18 years of service to the diocese and St Joseph Māori Girls College won the O’Shea Shield competition hosted in Porirua!

St Joseph’s Māori
Girls College will also host the competition in 2022, and of the three runner up schools in the 2021 competition, two were from our diocese!

Congratulations to St Joseph’s Māori
Girls College, Sacred Heart New Plymouth and St John’s College Hastings, along with other participants, for their results in this prestigious competition.

Alive in the Spirit | Online Conference

The innovative online conference – from 8 to 10 July – offers a next-level experience to participants through a variety of keynote speakers, home-grown workshops and enriching prayer and worship experiences.
