What We've Been Up To
Wow, it’s crazy to think that we’re almost halfway through 2021! With vaccine rollouts and spring in full bloom, things are looking hopeful once again. Hopefully, we’ll be able to resume striking this summer, in the meantime, check what Fridays For Future Calgary have been kept busy with this month, and see how you too can take action!
City Hall School Presentations
On April 23rd and May 6th, we had the amazing chance to give presentations to some grade four and five classes through City Hall School. We went over how the idea of climate strikes grew from one person to a worldwide movement, along with how they as individuals can create change in their communities. Our presenters had a ton of fun, and we think the students did too!
Friday’s For Future YYC is Endorsing Stop Ecocide!
Stop Ecocide is a global campaign that is focused on establishing ecocide as an internationally recognized crime. They are working with lawyers, researchers, politicians, and small nation-states with the goal of amending the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court to include ecocide, to “provide a simple, effective deterrent for those in positions of responsibility, enforceable within existing criminal justice systems.”
We encourage you to check out the campaign for yourselves.
Calgary Municipal Election Organizing
Our team is currently in the process of meeting with Ward and Mayoral candidates for this upcoming election in October to ask about how they will address climate and social justice issues in our city. Stay tuned for more details!

We recently welcomed a group of new members to our team! We are always looking for new graphic designers, writers, researchers, photographers, and enthusiastic members! So, if you are a Calgarian youth (age 13-25) who is interested in getting involved in local climate activism, please reach out to us here! No experience is necessary!
May 23rd Abolition Rally
We were proud to endorse Inclusive Canada’s event, Voices of the Oppressed: A Rally in Support of Abolition, which took place last Sunday. It was an extremely educational afternoon of speakers, all of which outlined programs and systems that can be funded to make our community safer for everyone.
If you missed it, you can watch part of it here.
