News

The redeveloped Parkdale Yacht Club has been officially opened providing modern and accessible new facilities for its members and opening the club up to additional community groups. The $2.9 million upgrade has transformed the aging building with a design that maximises the use of the space and ensures the facility can meet the needs of the club's growing membership into the future. A record number of voters turned out for the 2020 Kingston City Council general election with almost 85% of enrolled voters having their say, well surpassing the state average of 81.4%. According to the report by the Victorian Election Commission, the turnout was also a significant increase from the 2016 election, where just 76% of voters turned out to vote. Find out more.

The Carrum Life Saving Club will undergo expansion works to help meet the needs of growing community demand. Council has agreed to contribute $800,000, which combined with the $1.5 million State Government grant supports progression of the project within the next 12 months. The proposed extension will increase community amenity and improve facilities while providing the club with expanded on-site storage space.

Meet Kingston's new Junior Mayor  

Cheltenham East Primary School student Amelia Holko has been elected by her peers as Kingston Council’s Junior Mayor for 2021-22. The Junior Mayor program is a wonderful annual event that has been run within the City of Kingston for over 5 decades in partnership with Chelsea Rotary. Find out more about our Junior Mayor and Junior Council.

National Reconciliation Week  

From 27 May - 3 June we mark National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, culture and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for 2021, More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action. What's On

Great news: from 2022 all children are eligible for two years of funded kindergarten before they start school. Registrations for three and four-year old sessional kindergarten are open until 30 June 2021. Sign up at our central registration page

On 9 July, Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place will host Kingston's inaugural NAIDOC Dinner Dance event, featuring special guests Dr N’arweet Carolyn Briggs and David Tournier from The Boon Wurrung Foundation, music, stories and cultural performances. In addition to retail settings, Kingston now has three short story dispensers available in its libraries, one in the recently re-opened Highett Library. Short story dispensers are COVID-safe. When restrictions ease, please visit to choose a one, three or five minute story contributed by authors from around the world.
