Team Member Testimonial
Hi, my name is Roya!

"I am currently a BSW intern at Swoop's Food Pantry. I've been here since January and I will be around until August, and so fair I've been enjoying the experience of working here. I have been grateful to gain the training of prior interns as well as Heidi (our Graduate Assistant) and Julie (our Faculty Advisor), as everyone has been extremely supportive."

What made me come to Swoop's?

"Initially, I was interested in anything close to EMU since I had no transportation and I was living right off campus. After learning that Swoop's was an option, I became very excited as I had previously volunteered here before and absolutely love the work and mission that is put forth. Since starting, I've been able to learn so much more about things like nutrition, food security, and most significantly, normalizing the experience of pantry shoppers just like you and I."

"Prior to working at the Swoop's, I felt intimidated by ever using the services. I always felt that even if I could have benefited from the services and the things that are supplied, that I would be taking it away from somebody else. It wasn't until we did a Shopper Survey last semester that I realized I truly am not alone in that mentality. Instead of feeling like it made it true, it has made me want to try harder to make it so that shoppers no longer feel like their accessing basic needs is a nuisance or bother to others."

"Truly, I can confidently say that Swoop's pantry is for every student - no matter your financial situation, the amount of food already in your fridge or cabinet, or if you can afford to go to a grocery store."

Swoop's Garden

We are beginning to grow herbs and vegetables in our demonstration garden this summer! Start looking for snap peas, pole beans, kale, tomatoes, basil, cilantro, parsley, sage and oregano as they pop-up... many of the herbs live through the winter and are already ready for picking! Help yourself next time you come by the pantry. We also have a limited amount of vegetable and flower seeds up for grabs inside!
