In 2019, the Coast Guard counted 4,168 boat accidents that involved 613 deaths, 2,559 injuries and approximately $55,000,000 in property damage as a result of recreational boating accidents. Operator inexperience is one of the primary contributing factors in accidents. No matter where you’re cruising in SWFL, these boating safety reminders will help you avoid drama, danger, and disaster on the water.

Get a Free Vessel
Safety Check
Both the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the United States Power Squadrons have certified vessel examiners who will perform a free Vessel Safety Check (VSC) at your boat, at a time of mutual convenience. There is no charge, and no consequences if you don't pass.

FREE BOATING SAFETY COURSE
The BoatUS Foundation offers a free online boating safety course. In fact, it’s the only free course of its kind approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. After you complete the course online, you’ll receive a Boater Education ID Card from FWC in the mail.
