In Case You Missed It...

Last week's Courageous Conversation was a really powerful event! Thank you to all who joined us to hear the testimony of the Fortney sisters and the wisdom shared by expert panelists Janine Geske and Patrick Hornbeck.

If you couldn't make it last Thursday, I would encourage you to watch the event recording below, or at least check out the blog summary for the highlights. There's a lot of valuable information you won't want to miss. I also invite you to read through the "5 Things Catholics Should Know" graphic below and consider sharing this information with others!

FYI, Awake won't be hosting a Courageous Conversation in June, but stay tuned for announcements about future events!

Let's keep learning and growing, together,

PS: For those of you outside of the state of Wisconsin, thanks for sticking with Awake through this time of more local focus. I believe most of what we're discussing has broad applications for Catholics in any other state as well, so we hope you'll keep watching and reading - and then applying this information to your own local circumstances.

Blog Summary -  Courageous Conversation: Understanding Wisconsin’s Clergy Abuse Investigation

This week’s Awake blog offers a summary of last week’s important Courageous Conversation, which explored the Wisconsin Attorney General’s ongoing investigation of sexual abuse by Church leaders in this state. We urge Catholics to read the summary so that they’re informed about what may unfold.

“[Retired Supreme Court Justice Janine] Geske added that previous efforts to allow victim-survivors to make claims against the Church—which led the Archdiocese of Milwaukee to declare bankruptcy—are now complete. But this process didn’t yield the results that some hoped. 'I think a lot of survivors and others in the community feel pretty unsatisfied with the bottom line of how the Church has handled it,' Geske said. 'Authorities in the Church maybe have not learned a lot through this whole process … so I think in part this is moving toward a different kind of accountability.'

This current investigation 'is not about dollars,' she stressed. 'This isn’t settlements, this is about exposing exactly what’s happened.'"

Please Join Us In Prayer

Could you please pray today for all those in Wisconsin - survivors, their loved ones, and others with information - who are making the difficult decision whether to make a report to the attorney general. We recognize that this is a deeply personal and often emotional decision, and we ask for God's wisdom, strength, and discernment for all who need it right now. Thank you for praying with us!
