Access to work
Dear Alinker users, I need a favour from you, or rather your input. I am submitting a proposal for an Inclusive Design Challenge, and the subject is "Access to Work". I am developing the proposal in the next few weeks, submission is end of June.
Why this Design Challenge?
Quoted: "As of April 2020, 5.5 million Canadian workers experienced either job loss and significantly reduced hours due to COVID-19. On top of existing barriers to employment, persons with disabilities are more likely to experience difficulties finding and returning to work during COVID-19 recovery.
Priority areas identified by the disability community in this area include bias, disclosure of disability, and the limitations of a “one-size-fits-all” recruitment process".
Question to you
For anyone of you, using the Alinker for work, working for the Alinker, use it as a standing desk, for who employment would not be possible without the Alinker, or you did not have to quit your job thanks to the Alinker, or you are rejoining the workforce with your Alinker, can you please share a short story and good photos with me, explaining how the Alinker (company or the Alinker itself) creates "access to work" and accessible practices?
Any story that illustrates how the Alinker is making employment more accessible, or what the Alinker company does that impacted you to make work more accessible, is welcome.
Now! For each of the people whose stories make it into the final submission, we will donate CAD $1000 to the Collective Campaign in your name, if we win!
Please send it to me by EMAIL
Thank you

BE got an email
and wrote back
I got an email this morning, that started saying: "What a year it’s been. And, just maybe, some of us are starting to dip our toes back into real life". then they followed up with a special deal for their services (I am not disclosing the company).
BE's response:
I am opposed to the language in your email, just need to say it because it matters...
Dipping toes back into real life?
'Back into'.... as if we are returning to what we once thought was normal... ? Normal was criminal for most people on the planet, and for the planet itself too...
The pandemic is (still) 'real life', maybe even more real than what we perceived as normal..... it has unveiled so much about life and all the pre-existing inequalities, that it should not be dismissed.
And, just maybe, some of us..... exactly... some... the privileged, who can pretend nothing happened, because they live with the power and funds to continue to rape the world....
With dismissing the pandemic as a 'little error' a nuisance, we miss the opportunity of the moment, this collective experience, a pivotal moment in time where we can either do something else together, or go full on back into mass extinction.....
Not a moment and a choice to be dismissed....
We need a fucking revolution!! Fuck going back..... I am not yelling, I am just deeply rooted in the essence of this time. If we as a species have not woken up yet, then let's go for mass extinction, but at least let's party, celebrate we are all going to die, celebrate that we free earth from humans who did not see their own self-destruction, and were so wrapped up in their own egos, that they went for the kill, our own mass extinction.
No more drama about forests on fire, oceans filled with plastic, billions of cows pumped up with antibiotics, to feed to people so they get sick, so we can shove more medication into people to ultimately make just a few people rich.... yeah! Let's go back to life as we knew it..... and let's make a video about that!
and no.... let's not 'go back' to how things were, let's decide who we want to be as a human, in this special time. Let's be kind. Kindness is a practice that brings us together and together we can build a kinder world, for all of us.

The Coolest Grandma
Are you getting outside this week? Sharon is out being the coolest grandma ever She shared this in her post about her journey with her Alinker.
“Grand-mothering looks a little different then I thought it would. Sometimes I throw myself a little pity party because l get sad over the things I want to do with my Grandchildren but can't. l'm sad they won't ever know the me l used to be when I had two working legs. Then I remember I am the same person who is just learning to do things differently. And maybe I am even a little cooler because when you get tired at the park or the store you can hitch a ride.”
Do you have photos of you out on your Alinker you would like to share with us? Send us an EMAIL
