Feed the Lions

Through community donations and other partnerships, “Feed the Lions” is working hard to provide breakfast and lunch on-site, alongside a home food security program that provides backpacks or deliveries of non-perishable food items to students' families. This multi-faceted approach has allowed them to reach more students and their families throughout the pandemic since school started up again in September 2020.

We are calling on all who can and want to help to join us by doing the following.
  • Bring cans of green peas, carrots, or peas & carrots to the church during office hours (9am-3:30pm)
  • Call ahead to let us know when you’re stopping by (452-7110). You do not have to come into the building. One of the church staff team will come outside wearing a mask to get your donation.
  • AND/OR Financial Giving. If you would rather make a financial donation to this cause, you can give directly by clicking on the button below this post, or contact me or Kathy in the church office for details.

Because we serve a generous God, we believe that Christians should be the most generous people on the planet.

As a church, it is the generosity of our people that allows us to keep moving ahead with our vision.

Rhythms Like Jazz

Lately, a number of us on staff have begun working through a book to discuss later on this Summer.

The title of the book is Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership by Ruth Haley Barton. The book itself is about making sure that as we serve as spiritual leaders, that we're also benefiting from the kind of faith practices that we're encouraging and challenging everyone to do.

While I've been reading, it's reminded me that it's been a while since we talked about things like spiritual disciplines. About helpful practices that help produce wholeness in the life of followers of Jesus.

I've also been thinking about and praying for you. For your Summer and what it will look like with today's talk about phasing toward a green phase in New Brunswick. For some of us, this sounds like the best news! For others, things feel more uncertain or unsteady.

I don't know where you stand, but I do know that as I look into my own Summer, I'll be looking to get into practices that help center me for whatever the season I'll be in next looks like. I'll be looking to use my bike as much as I can, visit a few waterfalls, maybe do some camping, practicing some spiritual disciplines that I haven't in a while, AND I'll be writing a whole lot more frequently on Onpoint, and inviting a few others to do some writing too!

So, as we head toward and move into summer, we'll be thinking, discussing, and beginning/renewing the practice of spiritual disciplines together here on Onpoint.

If you've been in the church world for a while, you'll recognize a number of them, but you may also find a few that you wouldn't expect! As we look forward, know that I'm not looking to add things to a list of to-dos, but to help set in place a flexible framework of spiritual disciplines that can help all of us move forward in the way of Jesus. We're looking to build adjustable rhythms that work for us rather than over us.

That's why I'm calling this series Rhythms Like Jazz

Jazz is ultimately more about flexibility than structure. It's about improvising--feeling your way through and navigating the experience with the big picture in mind.

Similarly, practicing the way of Jesus is ultimately far more about the process than perfection, and that includes practicing spiritual disciplines. The spiritual disciplines we choose will be our rhythms, and we might have to get creative as we go.

No matter what disciplines you choose to take on or try out, Some key things to keep in mind are to be intentional, practice authenticity, make adjustments, and move forward as we learn more about ourselves and our lives, and lean into Holy Spirit. So, rather than fading into whatever daze we might naturally find ourselves in, we'll be tuning in with Holy Spirit as we head into and move throughout our Summer days. Also, I'm no music expert (some of you might have already noticed), So you won't hear too many more references from me!

Wherever you find yourself this week, this month, this summer, I hope you find practices that help bring wholeness for yourself and others as we all navigate whatever comes next. I hope you find what you'll read here helpful. I hope you sleep well, laugh a lot, get out to where you need to, and find a good amount of stillness and stirring as God breathes new life in a new season.

Much love,
Ben
