Steiner Winter Verse...
Deep in the ground of the human soul
Of victory assured
The Spirit-Sun is living
All through the winter of the inner life
The faithful heart divines it

Class 5 Explorers Camp to the Blue Mountains...
Last week, Class 5 visited the Blue Mountains which brought life to the stories of early Australian explorers like Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth. The children experienced firsthand the vastness and beauty of the place, with its deep and far reaching valleys and steep impenetrable cliff faces. Each day the children participated in a range of activities from mountain biking, abseiling and a series of daily walks led by Lisa O'Donnell who brought her local knowledge and experience of outdoor education to the children. Lisa took us to some amazing historical landmarks where we got to walk on the original roads made by convicts and sing in a cave that once housed the famous bushranger Ben Hall. Throughout the camp the children showed amazing teamwork and courage by overcoming many discomforts and challenges, like camping in the freezing cold, facing their fear of heights, walking in the dark through caves and winding, wet paths. Their determination never ceased to amaze me! The class were supported by an amazing team of adults comprising of; Pat Yeates, Catriona Davis, Gary Phillips and Lisa O'Donnell. I really believe these opportunities help strengthen the group's friendships and build individual capacities.

If you are free, would like to help, or have oranges you can donate - please let the office know. There is always plenty to be done.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Music Assembly...
From the delightful confidence of the string ensemble to the sweet voices of Class 3, this week's Music Assembly had something for all. The whole school came together to enjoy the hard work of our dedicated young musicians and vocalists. They are all so brave to have the confidence to get up on stage in front of an audience to share what they have been practising. We were lucky enough to be blessed with an original guitar piece written by Class 6 student Peppa and a beautiful solo sung by Class 8 student Sienna, along with much much more. Thank you to all the parents that were able to come along.

Wear it Yellow Day...

As part of our Reconciliation Week this year, on Tuesday 1 June, we will be encouraging all students and teachers in Class 6, 7 and 8 to wear yellow, as a sign of support and solidarity towards reconciliation for First Nations people. Class 8 and 7 students will hold a morning tea stall (with delicious low sugar treats to keep everyone from experiencing a post-cake energy slump!), and students from Class One up are invited to visit the cake stall at the River Campus during their morning tea break. Cakes and other goodies will be priced at $2 per slice. All money goes to the Children’s Ground not-for-profit to support Indigenous children and their communities.
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2021 is ‘More than a word. Reconciliation takes action’. This theme encourages all Australians to take action, to achieve equality between First Nations and non-First Nations people. That is why our school has chosen to participate in Children’s Ground’s ‘Wear It Yellow’ day. As part of ‘Wear It Yellow Day’, students will engage with Reconciliation Week learning materials and have vibrant discussions about First Nations issues. Students and teachers from Class 6 to 8 are reminded to wear yellow; and all staff and students bring money for a treat at morning tea. Parent Education Talks...
Parent education is offered by Chrysalis as a way of supporting caregivers to understand their child's various developmental phases and to feel equipped to meet the ever changing daily needs of children and adults. During Term 2 various classes have been given an opportunity to gather for age specific learning sessions facilitated by Melanie Deefholts from "Developing The Self, Developing The World" www.developingtheself.org
In each unique session we will develop and grow our own capacities as caregivers to perceive childhood developmental milestones and their associated behaviours and nuances. And explore practical and meaningful pathways to support healthy growth and development.
All caregivers are warmly encouraged to attend this evening of striving together, to focus on your child and understanding the wider class community. This helps build and strengthen healthy relationships and ways of relating to yourself and your child as we navigate family, school, work life balance. We look forward to seeing you there.
Warmly, Melanie

Class 8 Main Lesson - Shakespeare...
At the conclusion of their Main Lesson students are asked to write a sonnet. Below is a little taste and you can click here to read more.

Farm...
On a bright clear morning through the green trees
River winding gracefully to the sun
I see a vibrant hive and buzzing bees
Where my thoughts and blissful feelings run.
I raise my gaze, take in my surroundings
The sweet smell of the bloodwood’s flower
The flow of the honey was outstanding
A hive of bees work hour to hour.
From the song of the wind on a clear day
There the bees are foraging for their food
In the morning the bees come out to play
From the distant paddock the cow has mooed.
Through the ground you can feel the power grow
You can feel the power of the river flow.
Alice Schreenan - Class 8 Student
