Bank holiday and half term

As we approach half term, it’s worth thinking about your plans with the kids ahead of time.

Going shopping? Visiting the zoo? Heading out for a meal?

It's important to plan ahead and ensure you book ahead and continue to stick to the advice:

Remember - face - space - fresh air.

Let's keep up the good work.

Get vaccinated

If you’re aged 30 and over you can now book your COVID vaccination. It's important to get both your first and second vaccinations as soon as you’re able to.

Join the millions already vaccinated to protect yourself and others. Find out more about the COVID-19 vaccination on the NHS website.

COVID home test kits are now available for everyone for free too. Regular home testing can help provide reassurance for you and your family and help stop the spread of COVID-19 locally. Here’s how to get your test kit.

A new council

Despite the challenges of the last year we still held local elections in early May. On Wednesday we hosted our first full council meeting under a new administration, all hosted in a covid safe way.

It was great to be back in the chamber and welcome the councillors to begin their work for the new term of office.

The meeting also elected a new chair and vice chair of Cornwall Council.

You can watch new chair Pauline Gile's acceptance speech on the below link.

Free covid testing

Everyone can now get free twice-weekly Covid-19 tests.

Here are three reasons why it’s important
  1. Not everyone has been offered the vaccine yet
  2. One in three people have no symptoms
  3. Society can open up more safely so we can continue on the roadmap.

Highlighting highstreet safety

Popular stilt walkers will still be out and around during June to remind us to do our bit and keep each other Covid-safe when visiting local shopping areas around Cornwall.

This has been arranged by the Reopening High Streets Safely Fund which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund. This is where they’ll be over the next couple of weeks.

The stilt walkers will be in:
  • Falmouth on Thursday, 3, and Saturday, 5 June.
  • Hayle on Friday, 4 June.
  • Wadebridge on Thursday, 10 June;
  • St Austell on Friday, 11 June, and
  • Launceston on Saturday, 12 June
