We are looking for a limited number of parent volunteers to help with field day. Volunteers will need to be at DBS from 8 to 1:30 and be fully vaccinated.
All Vermont French and Spanish students were invited to participate in Vermont Foreign Language Association's inaugural poetry recitation contest, "Lost in Translation." Each participant in grades K-12 was asked to recite from memory one pre-selected poem. They recorded their recitations on Flipgrid and a panel of judges scored them based on pronunciation, memorization and performance. We are excited to announce that DBS students swept the Spanish Grades 4-6 category. Congratulations to Maria, Avah and Ethan won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. They each recited "La rosa blanca" by José Martí. We are so proud of all our Otters who took a chance to try something new and challenging!
Cyber Safety & Bullying
In response to the recent school climate survey, DBS's 5th grade students will work with Julie Gaudette on June 2nd to learn more about online safety and the impact of cyber bullying on both targets, witnesses, and perpetrators . Julie is the director of the Child Advocacy Center at Family Place and the Windsor County Special Investigation Unit. In this capacity, she has first hand experience with the challenges and dangers of technology use by minors. DBS's school counselor will follow up on Julie's presentation with lessons that focus on body safety and recognizing situations that require adult help to ensure safety.
The 5th grade is studying the food chain in some fun and creative ways.
