To the Political Science Department:

Congratulations to everyone for making it through another year, and a tough one at that. Remote learning has not been the same, but hopefully, next semester will return to as normal as possible. I am saddened that I will not be there for it, but I have enjoyed my time as student office assistant. Good luck to all of the students still at Case, and good luck to all of the graduating seniors!

Taking White Supremacy to Court

Join Integrity First for America (IFA) Executive Director Amy Spitalnick and lead attorney Michael Bloch for a critical conversation hosted by Case Western University School of Law. Together they will explore the path from Charlottesville to the Capitol and beyond and how we hold these violent extremists accountable—starting with IFA's Charlottesville lawsuit, Sines v. Kessler, which takes on the leaders of this violent movement and heads to trial this fall.

Judicial Crisis?: Dark Money, Court Capture, and the Future of American Democracy

In May, 2020, Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), released a report examining a decades-long effort by conservative interests to remake the federal judiciary. The report follows a several years of increased tension in the Senate over the perception of partisan judicial nominations. The tension escalated after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the expediated process to confirm a replacement before Election Day. On September 22, 2020, Senator Whitehouse testified before the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property & the Internet about the court capture and its effect on an independent judiciary, the rule of law, and the future of American democracy.

State Attorney General, was elected to the Senate in 2006. He is also the author of Captured: The Corporate Infiltration of American Democracy. The livestream will be available beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The CWRU Center for Civic Engagement and Learning has compiled a list of virtual volunteering opportunities, several of which are political science related.

Israel on Campus Coalition Fellowship
ICC is currently looking for student applications for the next school year for their 2021-2022 fellowship program. For more informaiton and to apply, follow the link above.

ICPSR's Summer Program
(ICPSR) Summer Program offers rigorous, hands-on training in statistics, quantitative methods, and data analysis for students, faculty, and researchers of all skill levels and backgrounds. Participants in the ICPSR Summer Program learn how to understand data and gain valuable research skills that help them to advance their education and careers. The ICPSR Summer Program is world-renowned for its premier quality of instruction, fun learning environment, and unparalleled networking opportunities. There are two options: the four-week session or the short session. Follow the links for more information and to register.

Langshaw Campaign for North Royalton City Council
Dan Langshaw is currently seeking students interested in learning more about political campaigning, strategic communications and digital strategies for his upcoming campaign where he will be running for a council position for Ward 3 in North Royalton. For more information, check out the flier!

Graduating Senior Opportunities

Douglass Project Fellowship
Douglass Project Fellows are diverse, engaged, and curious early-career professionals and college students who are committed to using their intellect, lived experience, and passion to work with the Douglass Project to build a more just, compassionate, and equitable society. Fellows will work in small, diverse teams comprised of traditional college students and those with lived experience to support key programmatic and administrative efforts of the organization.

German Bundestag Internship Program
This Internship Program provides the opportunity for American graduates to learn first-hand about German politics by working in the office of a member of the German Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag). The program runs from March 1st to July 31st. During this time participants are enrolled as students at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The application deadline is July 31st, 2021.

Scholarships

Summer Funding for Unpaid Internships and Projects
Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Education has funding available for students who receive an unpaid internship, pursue a project-based opportunity, or engage in substantive experiential learning over the summer. The funding is designed to enable students from all majors and economic backgrounds to participate in meaningful work and build skills through hands-on learning.
